NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Actress and singer Liza Minnelli has been admitted to hospital after falling out of bed at her house in New York. According to E!, the publicist Liz Rosenberg said late Monday that the "entertainer was under observation. Tests are scheduled and I hope to know more tomorrow." Minnelli was placed on a stretcher and taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Liza Minnelli has Minnelli has had a rough year with several legal difficulties. Minnelli's battles with alcohol addiction have been well-publicized over the years, and so has her tendency to bounce back into the showbiz life. Also she was sued last month by her ex-bodyguard and driver, who has accused her of assault and battery. Minnelli's estranged husband David Gest also filed a US$10 million lawsuit, alleging that he suffered extensive head injuries from her beatings. Liza won her first Tony Award for Flora, the Red Menace, making her, at age 19, the youngest actress to win a Tony for a musical role. She won her second Tony in 1973 for breaking the box-office record at the winter Garden Theatre for her one-women show and her third Tony in 1978 for her performance in Kander/ Ebb's The Act. She was nominated for an Oscar in 1969 for The Sterile Cuckoo, and in 1972 she won the Oscar and the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Sally Bowles in Cabaret directed by Bob Fosse. Her other film credits include: Charlie Bubbles; Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon; Lucky Lady; Silent Movie; A Matter of Time; New York, New York; Arthur; Arthur 2: On the Rocks; Rent A Cop; and Steppin Out. Minelli has dazzled audiences by performing in The Rink with Chita Rivera, An Evening With Liza Minnelli, Victor/Victoria, Minnelli on Minnelli, and the famous concert, Liza's Back!, at the Beacon Theatre in good ole New York.
