NEW YORK (AP) - Many newcomers scored their first gold or platinum albums, as certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, in September.

On the short list of first-time platinum award winners is Eminem's offshoot D12, whose Devil's Night reached the 1 million mark, as well as Gorillaz's self-titled debut.

Reaching gold status for the first time this month are Jadakiss' Kiss Tha Game Goodbye, Jennifer Knapp's Kansas, City High's City High, Mtume's Juicy Fruit, and Jamie O'Neal's Shiver. Fuel, meanwhile, reached multiplatinum status for the first time with Something Like Human, now up to 2 million.

Meanwhile, the Beastie Boys' groundbreaking album, Licensed to Ill reached 9 million units sold -- just short of the RIAA's diamond status for sales of 10 million -- bringing the trio's total overall album sales up to 21 million units.
