Music Australia) - It's official! NY MC and hip-hop icon Nas married his sweetheart
Kelis in a small ceremony over the weekend. Nas waxed lyrical about his impending nuptials to his 'Milkshake' honey on the track 'Gettting Married' from his new LP, 'Streets Disciple'.
Hip-hop icon Nas, aka Nasir Jones, has sealed the deal with his 'Milkshake' honey Kelis, marrying the sassy hip-hop singer in an intimate ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia over the weekend. According to sources, the wedding was attended by close family and friends, including Nas's brother Jungle and father, avant-garde musician Olu Dara, who features on the track 'Bridging the Gap' among others on Nas's new LP, 'Streets Disciple'.
Nas and Kelis met at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, with a smitten Nas proposing to his girlfriend before the year was out.
Unlike most couples in the celeb spotlight, Nas and Kelis have always been open about their rock solid relationship - both in the press and in their music. The twosome delivered the super-saucy duet 'In Public' for Kelis's latest album 'Tasty' while Nas penned what he thought their wedding day would be like on the track 'Getting Married' from 'Streets Disciple', saying he was scrapping plans to elope because Kelis "deserves Cinderella's ball".
"I'm stayin'/I'm sayin' vows all true/Will you take music as your wedded wife? I Do/Sike, this ain't about music, y'all know who I'm talkin' to/I'm getting married," he raps.
One of the best MC's to ever grab the mic, Nas's mad talent propelled his critical and commerical success to new levels in the world of hip-hop and his 1994 debut 'Illmatic' is still hailed as one of the best hip hop albums EVER. His latest effort, the phenomenal 2CD 'Streets Disciple' debuted at No 6 on the Billboard charts and has received rave reviews around the globe.
Kelis first launched into the spotlight with her awesome 1999 debut 'Kaleidoscope', featuring the single 'I Hate You So Much Right Now'. However, it's her third and current album 'Tasty', featuring production by The Neptunes, Rockwilder and Outkast's Andre 3000, that has made Kelis one of the hottest female artists in music right now.
