New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Miami based Indie-band "Tell Her I Love Her" are hosting a crowd-sourced animated video contest in partnership with the popular FlipaClip animation app. More than 160 contestants from 29 countries ranging in age from 13 to 28 have submitted videos. Animations for the band's first single, "Unravel" (https://spoti.fi/2q8mBvZ), reveal striking similarities and some unusual story lines, but when viewed through a global lens, a common theme about love and courtship is revealed. A video montage of these examples can be found here: https://bit.ly/2p2ntod.

"The innocent ways 'love' is expressed is telling," according to band manager, Brian O'Shea. "Blushing and hiding seems integral for boys, no matter their country or cultural background (https://bit.ly/2oZfAzG). Wooing girls with flowers, or handing them 'I like you' or 'I love you' notes seems universal too. Our most popular video has the boy asking a younger child to deliver an apology note to his love interest on his behalf while he hides (https://bit.ly/2nYu7cU)."

In "My Hero" (https://bit.ly/2oHOyt4), the animator introduces a female double amputee love interest. As explained by the artist (a 17-year-old from the U.S.), the video is about "a guy who meets a girl at a coffee shop. The girl had a birth defect where her legs didn't grow right, so she had to get her legs amputated… Even though the girl couldn't do regular things like other people could do, [she] did amazing things that other people would be surprised at."

One of the most charming animations starts with a broken down rocket ship on a far-away planet and finds an astronaut missing his girlfriend (https://bit.ly/2pbXsko). In a sign of the times, several videos show texting or emailing with friends to discuss their love interest (https://bit.ly/2pbHdnF).

"There is a surprising amount of consistency in their stories of meeting, falling in love and the courtship ritual," says, Brian O'Shea. "It's heartwarming that, regardless of the culture or age of the contestant, it seems we imagine falling in love in a pretty similar way."

All contest videos can be viewed at https://bit.ly/2q8IIlO. The "Animate Unravel Contest" ends May 12, 2017. Contest judges include Grammy winner Michael Patterson, famous for the "Take On Me" music video for the band A-Ha (https://bit.ly/1cZIpwS). Awards include some $2,000 in prizes, and 500 free professional FlipaClip licenses for the most stand-out submissions.
