New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Logic has been heavily using his platform this year to raise awareness for suicide prevention, as his song dedicated to the
National Suicide Prevention Hotline, "1-800-273-8255," has made a gigantic impact. After his powerful performance of "
1-800-273-8255" at the MTV Video
Music Awards, the Maryland rapper is joining a star-studded cast for "I'm Listening," a campaign that includes a two-hour radio special that is set to air live on World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept. 10).
Organized by Entercom, the suicide prevention and mental health awareness event is also slated to feature Metallica, Halsey,
Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Alice in Chains'
William DuVall, Bleachers' Jack Antonoff, Disturbed's
David Draiman, and Logic's "
1-800-273-8255" co-star Khalid, among others.
Promoting the "I'm Listening" campaign,
Logic said that "
1-800-273-8255" — which also features
Alessia Cara — was inspired by fans who told him that he saved their lives. "It's just so hard to fathom that, because I'm just like, a guy who raps," said Logic. "And I had to ask myself, 'If I saved your life, but I wasn't even trying, could you imagine possibly all the people I could effect if I actually tried and I made, not only one song, but an entire album?'"
According to Rolling Stone, the "I'm Listening" broadcast will find artists sharing personal challenges with mental health and offering advice and resources for listeners. Beyond the broadcast, the campaign will also feature public service announcements, promos, and live talks that will air on Entercom stations starting today (Sept. 5).
Originally released as part of Everybody, "
1-800-273-8255" received a cinematic video promoting suicide prevention and awareness. The song, which is named after the
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, is currently No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
