New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rising singer-musician Steve OBANDO, a magna cum laude graduate of the Berklee College of Music, is generating excitement and buzz with his debut record released by Granda Entertainment. Babylon, is a fresh cover composed by British songwriter
David Gray. The single was recorded in Los Angeles by Grammy award-winning producer
Sebastian Krys.
In a month, according to the New
Music Weekly's charts dated April 6/2018, Babylon placed at #1 in top 40 "up and coming", #2 in Top Country "up and coming", #3 in top 40/top indie, #6 in AC Hot/ Ac indie, #5 in AC/Hot Ac west, #18 in the AC/Hot Ac main chart, #18 in the Country
Internet main chart.
OBANDO, who is fluent in English, Spanish and French, has been playing music since he was in single digits. The singer/songwriter's first love was the piano, but he is equally proficient on guitar and bass guitar. Steve describes himself as, "an artist with a mission to bring 60's and 70's rock into a modern context, infusing his music with the freshness and innovation of his generation."
The Babylon music video has garnered in excess of 100,000 views in the first week of release. The video was shot in Miami and merges urban culture with some good old school Rock 'n' roll. Steve is playing with his band in an abandoned warehouse, then jamming up on a rooftop and singing in Wynwood's iconic paint and skate yard.
At Berklee, Obando earned a dual major in both piano performance/commercial writing & production plus a minor in Latin music. As such, he not only plays extremely well, but can orchestrate and produce anything from a rock band to a symphony. He took voice electives and has been studying vocal technique with a top vocal coach for a number of years. One of his first exposures to singing was as a member of his church in Montreal. Additionally, as a youth, he was the pianist of the gold medal winning community orchestra for the Quebec Youth Jazz festival at age 16. As a member of the Montreal All City Big Band, he was recognized as one of the top young pianists in Quebec. Subsequently, at age 17, he performed at the internationally acclaimed Montreal Jazz Festival with the same orchestra.
OBANDO has attracted two of the music industry's most prolific, global and artist-centric executives to handle his career business development. Oscar LLord, former President of Crossover in North
America for Sony Music, who alongside Tommy Mottola guided the careers of Ricky Martin,
Marc Anthony and
Shakira just to name a hand full, handled A&R for Babylon including recruiting the multiple award-winning engineer-producer Krys. Joe Granda, CEO and Founder of Granda Entertainment, celebrates 40+ years of successfully merging the
Latino and Anglo markets within the entertainment industry, providing both markets with some of the biggest names in the world of Crossover Artists, including Shakira, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias,
Gloria Estefan,
Nelly Furtado,
Christina Aguilera, among many, more.
