On Sunday, July 1st, Toronto's indie rock giants Broken Social Scene, who broke onto the scene with their 2002 debut album You Forgot It in People, will bring their melodic, experimental baroque pop to Central Park. They will be celebrating Canada Day with Mélissa Laveaux, a finger-picking folk guitarist and spellbinding vocals and folk group The East Pointers. This free show will take place from 3 to 7 PM.
Doors will open at 2 PM.
Two-time Grammy Award-winning R & B, soul, and reggae singer-songwriter
Melanie Fiona will perform in Brooklyn's Betsy Head Park on Sunday July 1st. She's joined by the versatile Queens-bred DJ mOma of Everyday People. This free show will take place from 7 to 9 PM. A free performance of "The Big Good Wolf" from the CityParks PuppetMobile will also take place at 4 PM.
On Thursday, July 5, Haitian group RAM will perform in Queens' Springfield Park. The group rose to fame in the 1990s with their melding of vodou culture, roots music, and rock and roll. They will be joined by blues-roots guitarist Paul Beaubrun and Haitian-born Brooklynite DJ Hard Hittin Harry in this celebration of Haitian culture. This free show, put on in association with AFRO-Latino Festival NYC is from 7 to 9 PM .
On Friday, July 6, the Brooklyn-born Dunning sisters, knows as The Legendary Ladies of SKYY, will bring their soul and disco jams to Queens' Springfield Park.
Radio host and Brooklyn native DJ Felix Hernandez, whose accolades include shaping the classic Rhythm Revue program and dance party, will also perform. A pre-show freestyle dance workshop with Theresa Lavington will take place at 6 PM. This freeshow is from 6 to 9 PM.
Also on Friday, July 6, Trey Anastasio, founding member of legendary jam band
Phish will perform his multi-faced solo work, Trey
Anastasio Trio, in this sold out show in Central Park. This performance is produced by The Bowery Presents and will take place from 6 to 10 PM.
Doors open at 5 PM.
Taiwanese Waves will take place on Saturday, July 7th, with Taiwanese artist Soft Lipa bringing his ultra-smooth jazz-infused rap to Central Park. He's joined by alt-rock folk experimentalists Sheng Xiang & Band, who sing in regional Taiwanese language Hakka, and math rock group Elephant Gym. This free show will take place from 6 to 10 PM.
Doors open at 5 PM.
On Saturday, July 7, SummerStage in Queens continues, with Kranium performing Springfield Park. The force behind "Nobody Has to Know", the young Queens resident is making wave with his adept dancehall music. He'll be joined by DJ Polish and longtime producer duo Federation Sound. This free show is from 4 to 7 PM. A free performance of "The Big Good Wolf" from the CityParks PuppetMobile will also take place at 4 PM.
