DALLAS, TX. (Smitty INK Media Group/ - Four-time Grammy Award winner Erykah Badu announced today that she will be attending the 2005 South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference in Austin as both performer and featured speaker - and to announce the creation of her new label, Control Freaq Records.

A proud Texas native, Erykah maintains strong ties to community programs in Dallas, including her nonprofit group B.L.I.N.D. (Beautiful Love Incorporated Non Profit Development) which, as its first project, refurbished The Black Forest Theater, creating an epicenter for her community outreach projects.

Erykah's introduction to SXSW came in 1995 when she performed as Erykah Free on a Hip Hop showcase at Catfish Station. Her 3-minutes of soulful singing brought the crowd to their knees. After a decade, Erykah returns to this Texas-based music festival. Badu states, "No matter where I travel, my heart is always in Texas. The creativity, art and culture are rich in Texas and SXSW offers a vehicle for so many people to share their art in uncompromised ways."

Erykah is a featured SXSW Interview on Saturday, March 19 and will participate in a special Q&A with journalist Robert Wilonsky, before opening up the floor for questions from the audience. This interactive forum is open to industry professionals and SXSW registrants and will take place in Room 18 ABC, from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m.

Discussion will focus on artists' rights and Ms. Badu's work in music, film (including the upcoming HOUSE OF D) and her community development programs.

Immediately following the interview, Erykah will hold a press conference to announce the creation of her new label, Control Freaq Records, and discuss the label's philosophy.

The day's events will culminate in a musical performance later that night at Austin Music Hall. Dubbed "Erykah Badu Presents: Control FreaQ Records Featuring Jay Electronica," the showcase will include a special set by Ms. Badu and will feature New Orleans born MC/Lyricist Jay Electronica.

A Master Communicator, Jay has been attracting much attention in the Hip Hop community with his powerful style and message. First introduced to Erykah through a mutual friend, the two quickly formed a creative bond that took Jay from the now infamous Magnolia Projects to his unique position as Control Freaq Records' first signed artist.
The showcase will kick off at 10 p.m., with opening performances by Nayrok, Strange Fruit Project, Devin the Dude and more - before Jay Electronica and Ms. Badu take the stage.
These events are made possible by the help of SXSW, AOL, the Dell DJ, Duplium and Luminous Sound. The events at SXSW are a co-production of Erykah Badu and Smitty INK Media Group (Dallas).

Expect to hear more from Erykah in 2005. This multi-talented artist will be starring with Robin Williams and Tea Leoni in HOUSE OF D, the writing and directing debut of actor David Duchovny. Watch the trailer at:

Erykah is currently in pre-production for much her much anticipated 4th studio album, yet to be titled but sure to impact the music world as only she can.
