AUSTIN, TX. (The Steam Team/ www.thesteamteam.com) - More popular than ever since his debut on American Idol last January,
William Hung will perform his unforgettable rendition of "
She Bangs" and other favorites at The Steam Team, 1904 West Koenig Lane, Saturday, March 26, from 3-5 p.m. The suggested contribution of $5 per adult will benefit Austin
Sunshine Camps.
"William Hung is an American success story. We can all find something to admire in his passion, perseverance and attitude," says David Marquardt, president and CEO of The Steam Team, an Austin-based cleaning and restoration company.
Marquardt knows something about success stories. He took over The Steam Team at age 24 when the owner, his stepfather, died unexpectedly in 1999. The business was failing and Marquardt took out more than $100,000 in loans to resolve its myriad of problems. In just five years, the company has experienced a dramatic turnaround and equally dramatic growth. Recognized as one of Austin's fastest-growing businesses and best places to work, the company is also known for its community involvement and philanthropy.
Today, The Steam Team, which had its 20th anniversary last year, has earned its reputation as Austin's best and most reliable cleaning and restoration service.
William Hung, 22, is a civil engineering student at the University of California at Berkeley, in addition to his burgeoning entertainment career, which includes a new national television ad for Ask Jeeves, a role in a new Chinese movie, and a third album coming out soon. He moved from Hong Kong to the United States with his family when he was 11 years old and captured the hearts of millions of Americans when he performed on American Idol in January, 2004.
The Austin Sunshine Camps will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from the William Hung performance. The camps, owned and operated by the Young Men's Business League, serve more than 700 at-risk and disadvantaged kids every summer. The camps teach life skills, self confidence, trust and teamwork, while providing outdoor fun through traditional activities like hiking, swimming, canoeing, and sports.
