New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient
George Clinton brings his classic psychedelic funk concert to The Event Center at Rivers Casino on Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and start at $50.
Capping over 50 years of touring and recording,
George Clinton is set to embark on his farewell tour with the legendary Parliament Funkadelic (P-Funk) before he retires. Starting in May, the group will hit the road in North
America with the "One Nation Under a Groove Tour." Joining P-Funk to send this icon of American pop culture off with a bang are Fishbone and Miss
Velvet & The Blue Wolf — both of which are taking time out of their busy schedules to hit the road with the Grammy-winning, once-rainbow-dreaded pioneer of funk, hip hop, and rock & roll.
Parliament Funkadelic has been a touring force for decades. The current lineup includes veterans Bennie Cowan (trumpet), Greg
Thomas (sax), Lige Curry (bass) and Blackbird McKnight (guitar) — they have been with Clinton for more than 30 years. P-Funk also now includes many younger generations of Clinton's family who are set to move the legacy forward into the 21'st century. "It's always been about the music and the band," says the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. "That's the real P-Funk legacy. They'll still be funkin' long after I stop."
The "One Nation Under a Groove Tour" is the latest blockbuster package tour created by Universal Attractions Agency, Clinton and P-Funk's booking agency. "We had been kicking this idea around for a long time," recalls Nick Szatmari, Clinton's agent at UAA. "It just felt organic and authentic, especially with the current social climate and the powers that are trying to divide everyone — their performances have always been a call for unity and togetherness through music. When
George announced his retirement, it just all clicked. It's surreal how it all came together, and we are very fortunate to have the support of Galactic, Dumpstaphunk, Fishbone, and Miss
Velvet & The Blue Wolf on this historic tour."
"Don't miss your chance to see the original master of funk perform live before his retirement," said Bill Keena, general manager of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. "It's sure to be a special send-off show in The Event Center."
