Rhiannon Giddens Performs At Museum Of Fine Arts Ahead Of Boston Pops Residency
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rhiannon Giddens, who begins her four-night residency with the Boston Pops tonight, stopped by Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to perform a few tunes in the museum's Musical Instruments Gallery. She takes a look at the MFA's historical banjo collection with Darcy Kuronen, the museum's Pappalardo Curator of Musical Instruments, and plays one of the banjos and sings, with Carolina Chocolate Drops' Hubby Jenkins on bones and Jason Sypher on bass. You can watch it here:

Giddens, who made her Boston Pops debut during the 2018 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, returns for a Pops residency titled Redefining American Music. For the first two evenings, tonight and Thursday, she joins the Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart to perform music from her own albums, fusing influences from roots, jazz, blues, country, gospel, and Celtic music. On Friday and Saturday, Giddens curates a program spotlighting overlooked African American composers, joined by vocalist Darius de Haas and pianist Lara Downes to perform works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Billy Strayhorn, Eubie Blake, Florence Price, and Hazel Scott. For tickets to any of the concerts, visit bso.org.

To pick up a copy of Rhiannon Giddens's new album, there is no Other, which Uncut calls "acoustic roots music at its most glorious," head to the Top40-Charts Store, where CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout. The album can also be heard at Spotify, Apple Music, and other digital service providers. A two-LP vinyl edition, which includes four additional tracks and expanded liner notes, will be released on September 13 and is available to pre-order now in the Nonesuch Store with an exclusive, limited-edition autographed print.
