New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Canadian rockers The Northern Pikes release the new single "Don't You Give Up" and the accompanying music video. "Don't You Give Up" follows the release of the band's ninth studio album, Forest of Love, out now via Universal Music. The music video for "Don't You Give Up" (watch below on Top40-Charts.com) was filmed and edited by The Northern Pikes' own, Don Schmid, during the final stages of the recording process for the new album.
On the music video filming process, Don Schmid says: "It was on the eve of our last day in Studio Bell at the NationalMusic Centre when we needed one more song to complete our album. The 4 of us got together in Bryan & Kevin's room to share ideas for a song that would feature each of the 3 singers taking a verse."
"We quickly realized that the song sounded great with just acoustic guitars and no drums were needed, possibly some shakers and bass guitar, but that's it," Schmid continues. "When we got all setup in the studio with Jay, Bryan & Kevin sitting in a half circle I began filming & capturing the live performance from a few different angles. The result is a very honest & real moment captured in one full take."
On July 18, The Northern Pikes hit the stage in Calgary, AB as headliners for the CFL Thursday Night Football Concert Series Halftime Show. The group performed the first single off the new album, "King In His Castle" and their classic hit, "She Ain't Pretty".
Released on June 7, Forest of Love marks the first new music from the band in sixteen years, and the first to feature official new band member Kevin Kane (from The Grapes Of Wrath). Kane joins original band members Don Schmid, Jay Semko, and Bryan Potvin. Comprised of 10 tracks, the album features the lead single, "King In His Castle".
Recorded at Studio Bell in Calgary, Forest of Love arrives as follow up to 2017's Big Blue Sky (Super-Sized) 30th anniversary reissue and 29-city Canadian tour in celebration of the beloved album. The triple coloured vinyl anniversary edition was expanded to include a second album of all-new music from the group's archive, and a third album featuring a live recording from the legendary Horseshoe Tavern on their first national tour in 1986. Most recently, The Northern Pikes received a SOCAN Classic Award to commemorate 100,000 radio performances for their classic hit single, "She Ain't Pretty" in Canada.
