NEW YORK (www.basicnyc.com) - In 1999, San Diego's Hipp-e and his former partner Halo ignited a house music revolution that is still burning around the world. With the release of their '420 Sessions EP' on the Siesta label, their production duo the H-Foundation ushered in a new sound that changed the face of house – the percussive, hypnotic dub-influenced grooves that were labeled as the 'West Coast House' style. The H-Foundation was hugely successful, and paved the way for a host of upstart artists and labels. But even with the H-Foundation gone (the duo split up in 2004), Hipp-e has continued to blaze a path of innovation in music. He arrives in New York on Saturday, May 7th, returning to the Sullivan Room to showcase his current vision of house music – a solid mix of deeper sounds, techy elements and rhythmic percussion, all of it tied together with the DJ skills that have made Hipp-e a crowd favorite since his Colorado rave days of the early 90s. 2005 finds Hipp-e quite busy in the studio and beyond. He's got a string of singles for the UK's NRK label lined up (under the Psycho-Delics moniker), plus he's just mixed the 7th installment of NRK's 'Singles' mix CDs. His label Nightshift recordings continues to feature strong dancefloor-minded releases, and his recent mixes on Freerange, Darkroom Dubs and Soma display his diversity as a producer. Warming things up for Hipp-e will be locals Devin Deveaux (himself a renowned producer, with releases on Black Vinyl and Elan Records) and Keith Black. DJ Gatto from NYC's Art for Progress collective will also be dropping his tribal-laced house beats. Closing up the night will be Basic NYC residents Sleepyface & DJ Boo. Event Party Info: Saturday, May 7th 9pm – 5am / Sullivan Room (218 Sullivan St.) Cover $15 - $10 with RSVP to [email protected]
