New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The gothic pop songstress Kailee Morgue drops "Black Sheep"—a fan favorite cover at her live shows—listen to the song HERE! The track, originally written and recorded by Metric, was featured on the soundtrack for 2010's indie cult classic film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which coincidentally was released 9 years ago this year. Kailee teamed up with producer Dylan Brady (The Neighbourhood's Jesse Rutherford, Lil West, Tony Velour), who she previously collaborated with on her song "F**k U."
Of the song, Kailee says, "I actually covered 'Black Sheep' on tour because I always loved that scene in Scott Pilgrim, and I wanted to recreate that even down to Brie Larson's movements! It was always the craziest part of my set so I decided to make a studio version to share that feeling with everyone, I can't wait to perform it again!"
Earlier this year, Kailee teamed up with Hayley Kiyoko for her breakout hit "Headcase," an empowering queer pop power anthem featuring a sample of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" The song received praise from Billboard, MTV, TIME, NYLON, PAPER Magazine, UPROXX, Stereogum, Idolator, Ones To Watch, EARMILK and more. Stay tuned for more new music from Kailee Morgue this fall!
Magic takes many forms. In the case of Kailee Morgue, it happened in the span of one unbelievable year. Not only did the critically acclaimed Phoenix-based gothic pop siren manifest a spellbinding signature style in 2018, but she also underwent a lifetime of transformation in that time. Musically, she released her breakout hits, "Medusa," "Siren," "Do You Feel This Way" (feat. Whethan) and "F**k U." The artist earned acclaim from The New York Times, MTV, The FADER, NYLON, Highsnobiety, Pigeons & Planes, PAPER, Vice's i-D, and Teen Vogue who proclaimed her among the "Musicians You Need to Be Listening to In 2019." Not to mention, she embarked on her very first national tour. Personally, she turned 20, came out to her family, embraced her bipolar disorder, tattooed her face and even cut her multicolored locks. All of these experiences informed, impacted and influenced Kailee's music in 2019 and beyond, as she emerged from "night to day." Working alongside frequent collaborator CJ Baran [Panic! at the Disco, Carly Rae Jepsen, Melanie Martinez], she succinctly refined her sound. Kailee's latest single "Headcase" feat. Hayley Kiyoko from her forthcoming project was written and recorded in a five-hour fit of inspiration alongside Baran, an empowering anthem inspired by her relationship with her bipolar disorder. The track builds from an airy sample of Pixies' classic "Where Is My Mind?" over glitchy electronics into a chantable chorus. Dueting with Hayley, Kailee bravely declares, "I'm a headcase, but you love me, I'm a mistake, I warned you."
