WHY: The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Spouses will recognize the contributions of African Americans that have made and continue to make substantial contributions in the arts at the Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts. This year's honorees are Legendary Grammy Award Winning Musical Artist, Maxwell and history making ballet performer and Best selling Author, Misty Copeland. Maxwell will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his innovative contributions to the music industry as a singer, songwriter and producer. Misty Copeland will receive the Performance Trailblazer Award for being the first African American ballet dancer to be promoted to principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre's 75-year history. The event will be hosted by Fox 5 news anchor and WHUR radio host, Allison Seymour.

COL is a fundraising event for scholarships in the performing and visual arts, and kicks off the 2019 Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), Wednesday, September 11th thru 15th, 2019. ALC'S Theme is, "400 Years: Our Legacy, Our Possibilities" —commemorates the first Africans arriving to America as slaves ('400 Years' ago) and acknowledges that slavery is a part of our legacy.
