New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Alternative dream-pop duo Me Not You released their entirely self-created, composed and written debut album Already Gone on 8 November via MNY Music. They have seen considerable success with their two previous EP's Reckoning and Reckoning 2 and have garnered press support from a plethora of publications including Billboard, Wonderland, Stereogum, The Line Of Best Fit, Noisey, Wonderland, Earmilk, CLASH Magazine and many others. They have racked up nearly 6 million Spotify streams and half million Soundcloud plays, and have twice hit #1 on the Hype Machine Charts. They toured alongside
Gary Numan on his USA and Canada tours, including dates at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco, and the esteemed Brooklyn Steel in NYC.
Based in New York, Me Not You is the collective force of Eric Zeiler and
Nikki Taylor. Spackled in fuzz and reverb and dragged through the muddy East River, their music is a summation of everything the two have listened to and experienced in their lives, making it inherently personal.
Aside from their devotion to
Lou Reed and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Me Not You cite influence from a wide variety of genres and artists including Radiohead, Aphex Twin, and Pixies. From The Sisters of Mercy's deep gothic basslines to the vocal stylings of Siouxsie Sioux or Blonde Redhead, Me Not You's idiosyncratic soundcraft spans across genres to create something entirely anomalous.
Already Gone traverses a full compass of sound, from slow-burning, gently chaotic dissolve to high energy effervescence. The album was conceived through a spectrum of emotions, and on Already Gone we see Me Not You exploring the sedimentary layers of love, loss, sadness and elation while observing the remarkable, and sometimes disturbing connections between these feelings.
Nikki gives some insight into the process behind the album: "We spent the first half of 2019 writing and recording the songs for Already Gone. Eric and I disconnected a bit from what we had done prior to the LP and dug into what we were experiencing in life, channelling it into the songs. I had lost my grandmother last summer, a few days before finding out I was pregnant. It was a sad, yet beautiful time and the things I was feeling are apparent in the songs. We made the record ourselves, from composition through mixing, as it was important for us to be able to connect every aspect of the music to our experiences."
