New York, NY (Top40 Charts) 'Everything stops for PopMaster!' as
Radio 2 announces All Day PopMaster. Listeners and some of the UK's best loved BBC and commercial radio presenters including Zoe Ball, Greg James, Dotun Adebayo and
Ronan Keating will be competing against each other across the station's daytime shows in the nation's favourite pop quiz… with the PopMaster maestro, Ken Bruce, hosting each of the rounds (Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May).
Dermot O'Leary will launch proceedings in the
Radio 2 Breakfast show at 7.35am, with hourly heats through the day into Ken Bruce's own show (9.30am-midday), through Claudia Winkleman (midday-2pm), and then into the Afternoon Show with Scott Mills (2-5pm). Scott's show will also host two Semi-Finals, with the Grand Final taking place in Sara Cox's show at 5.30pm where Ken will have the honour of bestowing the Winners' Trophy to the victor, and all contestants will receive PopMaster prize bundles.
Ken Bruce says: "Our little daily pop quiz has become rather a thing. Having swept the nation into its clutches, it's now venturing to other parts of
Radio 2. From the comfort of my luxury abode, I look forward to quizzing some foolish fellow presenters who have agreed to take the plunge. Be warned, you may think you're a dab hand at pop trivia, but many great quizzers crumble under the pressure!"
PopMaster is the daily pop quiz, hosted by Ken Bruce in his show, where two listeners answer questions about pop music from the past six decades. In the All Day PopMaster, the players with the top four winning scores from the heats will go through to the semi-finals, and then battle it out for a place in The Grand Final.
Helen Thomas, Head of Content Commissioning, says: "Ken Bruce's PopMaster has become a legendary quiz for millions of our listeners. I'd like to thank all the presenters who have agreed to take the plunge for this All Day special to be quizzed by the PopMaster himself!"
Listeners will need to tune into Ken Bruce's daily
Radio 2 show from Monday 11 May to find out how they could take part in this special day or find out more online. PopMaster can also be played online.
Ken has presented his mid-morning show, Monday to Friday from 9.30am-midday, on
Radio 2 for over 28 years and, due to the pandemic, is currently broadcasting from home. He has been running the PopMaster quiz since February 1998. In the summer of 2019 Ken held the We Stop for PopMaster UK Tour giving listeners the chance for the show to be broadcast live from their workplace as he took PopMaster around the UK for the first time.
