New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Soulection Records - the longtime and newly revamped arm of the acclaimed indie music platform, label, radio show and collective - is proud to officially announce its first release of a stacked 2020 lineup: Juls & Sango's Fufu & Grits EP, out May 28.
Both Juls and Sango are longtime members of the L.A.-based DJ and producer community. In its original run through 2012-15, Soulection Records released Sango's debut LP, North, that helped grow the collective into its current form, and the new two-track EP celebrates the artist's unique contribution to the artistic family.
Juls, one of modern Afrobeat's most prolific producers, and Sango have recorded an inspiring set that brings out the best of both artists. The EP channels the sunny and feel-good spirit that Soulection has become known for: tropical Afro and Latin rhythms, brass and strums, an emphasis on a strong groove, and a feeling of genuine musicianship. The instrumental "Ritmo Coco" shines with shimmering guitar licks that play with whispering piano and dueling flutes that transport the listener to a faraway tropical beach. "Angele Ni Fie" trades flutes for trumpets, and it features playful vocal samples over a steady yet evolving beat. On Fufu and Grits, everyone shines, and everyone is the star.
