NEW YORK (Nublu Records) - From Monday, June 20th to Sunday, June 26th, Nublu and all of the groups from the Nublu family will share what has become known as the Nublu Sound. It is a sound that is as diverse as New York City itself, a sound that comes from the combination of each individual musician's experience within the international capital and outside in all the corners of the world. The party will be a celebration with all the groups and DJs that were actually born and developed in this small space on Ave C.
When explaining the sound, as is required sometimes unfortunately, the bandleader and owner/founder of Nublu, Ilhan Ersahin, puts it very simply: 'We play music.' If we need to explore it further, it is a unique blend of sounds that could only have been created in this corner of the world. The musicians, most who come from a very strong background of jazz, are among the best in the city, playing over the years with pretty much anybody you can imagine-Sun Ra,
David Byrne, McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman,
Saul Williams, Tom Waits, John Zorn, Beck. The music is a blend of ambient electronics, jazz, DJed dance beats, Turkish classical music, rock and new wave. It all comes through as pure love in the form of music, not as a musical style or a juxtaposition of genres but as its own unique sound.
Up to now, Nublu has never paid for promotion, letting the word of the music and the sound growing here spread naturally. Somehow, the word has gotten out. Within its short history, Nublu and its artists have been featured in the New York Times, Flaunt, Trace, Vogue, The New Yorker, Time Out New York, The Village Voice, NY Press, XLR8R, Folha de Sao Paulo, Hurriyet, URB, Liberation, LA Times, Flaunt, and Rolling Stone. The list keeps going…
So sit back enjoy the week in the little room at 62 Ave C this week, and lookout for all the releases coming from Nublu Records in the fall.
