New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Brighton-based artist and musician LUCY FELIZ is pleased to reveal the video for her new single 'Last Laugh', recently featured as part of the BBC Introducing Isolation Mixes on the 'Working From Home Mix' from BBC Sounds, and out now via all good DSPs.

The new track is the latest to be taken from her second album, Last of The Sun, set for release on 28th August 2020 via Scottish independent label OK Pal Records.

Commenting on the single, Feliz says: "Last Laugh is a coming of age story, evocative of the moment a child realises they won't live forever. It's an ode to being young, feeling invincible, and capturing that vulnerability you feel when you realise you have no control of what the universe will bring. It's about letting go, embracing the humour in our menial existence, and laughing at it in the face of fear."

Following on from her previous effort, the video for 'Last Laugh' is another Lucy Feliz in-house production. Filmed by Tiia Kukkonen, who plays synth in Feliz's live band, it was directed and edited by Feliz herself during lockdown.

"The concept was to escape the mundane by stepping into a '90s garden dreamworld," she says of the footage. "The inner child explores their limits, and we see reality flutter between imagination and what's actually there. After all the excitement, it gets a bit sad, and we realise it's not that fun playing alone!"

Feliz released the album's lead single 'Magic Hour' earlier this year to a flurry of early excitement from press including DORK Magazine, BBC introducing The South, Secret Meeting, For The Rabbits, Giglist, Brighton Music Blog, Independent Music News, Come Play With Me, When The Horn Blows and more.

Feliz recently took part in the Big Issue North's Big Busk At Home—a charity livestream gig raising money to provide Big Issue vendors with PPE and contactless payment devices, and providing financial aid to those who are still shielding. She also appeared on Quarantine Cabaret, Quarantunes (curated by OK Pal Records), and a Live Music Scotland lineup alongside Martha Ffion and Savage Mansion (Lost Map Records).

Feliz's debut album, Ancestry, was released on Union Music in 2017. Recorded in a church founded by her Welsh ancestors, the record was a raw exploration of roots and belonging. After receiving favourable press coverage from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Folk Radio, Folk & Honey and national plays on BBC Radio Wales, she went on to open for artists such as Laura Veirs, Anna Burch and Tiny Ruins on their UK tours.

On forthcoming new album Last of the Sun, we see Feliz shift her attention away from the realism of personal histories to a more fluid terrain. She transports the listener into dreamscapes and mythological plains, while retaining the lyrical intimacy that defined her first record.

"When I was a kid, my dressing up box was my favourite thing in the world," Feliz explains. "I love shape-shifting and costume."

It's clear that transformation is an inherent theme in Feliz's psyche. This playful approach to identity is evident in her music. She describes each song on the album as a world in which different parts of her can surface and make sense of themselves. These aspects of her personality often manifest as archetypes: the child, the cowgirl, the werewolf…

In many ways, they are just nostalgic, cartoon-like figures. However, for Feliz they also epitomise deeper internal conflicts, such as care and neglect, love and loneliness, paradise and dystopia.
