Eslabon Armado Scores First Top 10 On Top Latin Albums Chart With 'tu Veneno Mortal'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The band's debut studio album also arrives at No. 2 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.
Eslabon Armado secures its first top 10 on any Billboard Albums chart as its debut studio album Tu Veneno Mortal, arrives at No. 9 on the Top Latin Albums chart dated May 16.

"The album was just finished in January and completely recorded in my garage," 17-year-old Pedro Tovar, lead vocalist and composer of the group tells Billboard. "I'm super happy and grateful with all my team and my family as this is something completely unexpected. I never thought our album would debut so high. More than excited to see that our songs have had the reception they did."

The album earned 4,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 7, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Most of that came from streaming activity - the 10-track set earned 6.3 million on-demand streams in the tracking week.

Top Latin Albums ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

It's the first entry on the Top Latin Albums chart for the teenage trio comprised also of Tovar's brother, Brian Tovar (16, bass and bajaloche player) and Gabriel Hidalgo (18, harmony and background vocals), which belong to the new wave of the young corridos US Latin ensembles.

"The original plan was to release Tu Veneno Mortal on Valentine's Day for all those in love and those hurting," Tovar adds. "I focused on writing stories to dedicate to others, one of them being 'Con Tus Besos,' our first single which wasn't my favorite, I thought it wasn't going to be a hit, so I didn't want to include it in the album. It ended up making it to complete the 10-track set and we're officially releasing it on May 14."

Eslabon Armado secured its first entry on any Billboard chart with "Con Tus Besos" which peaked at No. 21 on Hot Latin Songs chart (blends airplay, streaming data and digital sales) and at No. 16 on the Latin Streaming Songs chart dated April 25.

Concurrently, Tu Veneno arrives at No. 2 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.
Prior to Tu Veneno, Eslabon released Nevegando y Flotando, a 5-track EP which did not enter the charts.
