New York, NY (Top40 Charts) When Bradley Bills, creator of the tribal-industrial-art-rock project, CHANT, is not drumming alongside PiL/Ministry/Killing Joke veteran Martin Atkins and Tool's Danny Carry in the industrial supergroup Pigface - he's producing albums with percussive driven songwriting that digs deep into primal emotion and social observation and 2020 is no exception.
CHANT took to social media this week to announce that a new album 'HYDRA' is complete, and a new single 'President God' will be released during presales, occurring now and leading up to the album's release on October 30th.
Bills - who has been called on to drum for industrial icons Die Krupps, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, and The Skatenigs and by KMFDM and Lords of Acid to open as CHANT on multiple tours this past decade Bradley stated that: The message of this record has intersected with the urgency of the moment, so for that reason, I feel compelled to release HYDRA as an independent release so it can be heard in the time of our national election.
Written in 2019 and recorded, mixed and produced by Bradley himself - HYDRA proves to be his most ambitious, yet focused effort to date. Each song stands on its own, but when listened to in order, they lay out an unfolding drama - chapter by chapter - following the rise of a demagogue and the unlikely hero who defeats him, even in death.
A sonic combination of STOMP and Nine Inch Nails - Peter Gabriel and Nitzer Ebb - it draws on a wide array of influences creating a sound that is unique, yet familiar - and delivers a message that is both thought-provoking and timely.
