Cleveland-Based Indie Artist Jordan Dean Aims To Replicate Success Of UK Heroes With New EP
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jordan Dean may well have grown up in Cleveland, Ohio but his musical heroes are very clearly on the other side of the pond, as evidenced by the tracks on his new EP, Local. With his own take on indie pop which incorporates a raw, live sound, he draws influence from all the music he comes across but you'll be quick to pick up on the melodies and sounds of artists such as Jamie T, The Kooks, and Arctic Monkeys. However, Local is distinctly Jordan Dean, comforting and familiar yet fresh and engaging, 2021 is the year when Jordan looks to make his mark in his spiritual home.

When I first started songwriting, I really wanted to be able to control a room with just an acoustic guitar. However, as I got older and started hanging around local music venues, meeting other musicians, and coming to appreciate great bands, I shifted my focus to sounding more like the bands that I fell in love with so much. I pull from a lot of different influences and styles. I'm a huge fan of the post-punk revival bands like the Strokes, the Libertines, and Arctic Monkeys and have seemed to lean more heavily on those influences for my latest material as I always find myself coming back to those recordings and not getting bored of them. After chasing it for most of my teenage years, I think, working with a talented producer such as Tone Def, I've finally began to settle in to finding my own sound and putting music out that reflects my broad range of influences.

Having learned to play the piano at a young age, he picked up the guitar in his mid-teens and fell in love with the instrument. Soon after, he took to songwriting. Growing his audience in 2019 with his first two singles, Gone and Lost, he is on a constant mission to better himself as a songwriter and is always looking for new methods of expressing his emotions. Writing mostly about personal experiences, Jordan hopes to relate to listeners, while creating a unique sound of his own. Having recently turned 21, he feels he's only getting started.

I told my producer that I wanted to sound like a four-piece band that packed a 300-person venue and I feel like we accomplished that on the Local EP. We said it in the studio that this EP feels like a 30-minute set that you would see in a small venue packed with people who really want to be there.

Local has real heart and soul, as well as personality and humour, a glimpse of an artist growing up and enjoying himself whilst experiencing and sharing real emotions. This collection of songs were written when I was 18 and 19 and they just have to do with coming into young adulthood. I think they both encapsulate the young fun side of drinking and that but also carry some emotional weight of growing up. The songs all have to do with relationships with friends, family, and the people that were around me at that time.
