NEW YORK (Virgin Records) - "Feel Good Inc.," the still blazing first single from Gorillaz' already gold-certified "Demon Days," has been nominated for two 2005 MTV Video
Music Awards. The hypnotic clip, which features flying windmills and landmasses as well as a cameo from De La Soul, was directed by
Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett and
Passion Pictures' Pete Candeland, and produced by Cara Speller and Emilie Walmsley. Production company
Passion Pictures also handled special effects.
From the iPod ads leading up to "Demon Days'" May 24 release to last week's MTV "Pre-RL," "Feel Good Inc." has been virtually ubiquitous. The video is currently in rotation in MTV's Big Ten, MTV2's Elite 8, MTVU's Summa Cum Laude, and MTV Hits' Power rotation - all of which are the highest possible rotation status of each channel. The track is currently No 2 on both iTunes and the U.S. Alternative
Radio chart.
Gorillaz were first introduced to the world consciousness by Damon Albarn of Blur fame and Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett with the 2000 debut album, "Gorillaz," which went on to sell in excess of six million copies worldwide. "Demon Days," which features collaborative work from Albarn and "Grey Album" mastermind Danger Mouse, as well as cameos from
Dennis Hopper, Ike Turner, Shaun Ryder,
MF Doom and others, has already gone gold in the U.S. with worldwide sales surpassing two million.
At press time, there is no word on whether Noodle, Murdoc, 2D or Russel will be attending the ceremony, which will be broadcast live from the American Airlines
Arena in Miami, FL, on Sunday, August 28, 2005, at 8:00PM (LIVE ET/Tape Delayed PT).
