New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Throughout the past year Lawrence Rothman has released a fearless string of new music that's boldly tackled topics like living as a non-binary person in the heart of Trump country during the 2020 election ("Sunny Place For Shady People," named a 'Song You Need To Know' by Rolling Stone) and the process of beginning to heal from childhood abuse after decades while in quarantine ("Thrash The West," for which Queerty compared Rothman to Johnny Cash and Courtney Love at the same time). Today, Rothman has unveiled the full collection these songs emanate from - their new album Good Morning America - which continues to shatter Rothman's own boundaries as an artist through candid, vulnerable lyricism and an eclectic soundscape that draws from heroes like Anohni and Tom Petty at the same time.

While Rothman has long been beloved as a "musicians' musician," producing and collaborating with Angel Olsen, Mitski, The Highwomen and Kim Gordon in the recent past, Good Morning America finds them looking inward at past life experience - purging "the demons that have haunted me," as Rothman states, including their own trauma from abuse, the unsettling toxic masculinity of recent times, and the often difficult journey - both for themselves and others - to accepting, embracing and celebrating their gender identity. Through all the pain and confusion, there is a consistent thread of finding peace through empathy and community. Rothman details the catharsis of lockdown FaceTime calls with those who've been through similar experiences, and by putting "my innermost thoughts and experiences into song" hopes to provide that same safe environment for togetherness and connection for anyone in need.

Good Morning America was co-produced by Lawrence with Yves Rothman (Miya Folick, Yves Tumor) and Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Angel Olsen, Sky Ferreira), and finds them teaming with like-minded collaborators across genres and generations like Girlpool, Mary Lattimore, Pino Palladino, Katie Pruitt, Caroline Rose, Amanda Shires, and Lucinda Williams. The album was mostly written remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with collaborators over video calls, and was recorded in a series of unconventional spaces like an abandoned mall outside of Los Angeles and a rug shop in Nashville. In addition to their musical collaborations, Rothman has also recently scored a number of multimedia projects for legendary brands and cultural institutions, including: Gucci's 100th anniversary 'Aria' campaign, the New York Times' "Great Performers" series (which featured Timothee Chalamet, Daniel Kaluuya and Saoirse Ronan) and projects for the TATE Modern, Barbican Centre and many more.
