WASHINGTON (Variety) - President Bush has asked all radio stations to play "The Star-Spangled Banner" Tuesday to mark the three-month anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. National Assn. of Broadcasters president-CEO Edward Fritts relayed the message on Friday, saying the president wants the stations to play the national anthem at 8:46 a.m. EST -- the exact time when the first jet hit the north tower of the World Trade Center -- or at a time deemed appropriate. "Broadcasters take seriously our duty to serve the public. Since Sept. 11, local stations have helped unify a grieving nation with fundraising appeals, timely news and information and assistance to charitable organizations. We urge all stations to participate in this anniversary salute," Fritts said. President Bush is also asking other countries around the world to play their respective national anthems in honor of the three-month mark. He will lead the worldwide initiative with the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the White House.
