New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Your favorite global pop star CMAT fires the starter pistol on her second album with a swooning, string-laden shuffle of a new single, "Whatever's Inconvenient" - a dramatic self-examination that finds our heroine looking in the mirror and wondering… "wait, could I be the problem?" (A: probably not). The new single is out today on AWAL Recordings.

CMAT on Whatever's Inconvenient: "Whatever's Inconvenient is a bit of a mission statement for me (and for my second album). It's a big question mark over why I am so unendingly bad at entering and maintaining romantic relationships. I don't really answer the question here, because I can't and probably never will, but it's always helpful to acknowledge your own uselessness (I find)."

"Whatever's Inconvenient" - the first single to be taken from CMAT's soon-to-be announced second album - was premiered by Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1 last night. The distinctive "Samuel Beckett meets Shirley Valentine" video - shot in Kos, Greece by Collective Film - was premiered on her YouTube channel last night immediately after.

"Whatever's Inconvenient" was recorded and produced with Bonny Light Horseman's Josh Kaufman (Cassandra Jenkins, Anais Mitchell) in upstate New York in the US, with additional production and mix by Matias Tellez (Girl in Red) at his studio in Bergen, Norway. It's accompanied by artwork from London-based artist Seatton - whose work will feature across the new album campaign.

It follows January's one-off single "Mayday" and last year's debut LP, If My Wife New I'd Be Dead - which recently won the prestigious Choice Music Prize for album of the year in her native Ireland. After a brief live hiatus (save for support slots with Wet Leg in the Royal Albert Hall, and the Teskey Brothers across Europe), CMAT has announced an initial run of festival shows for the summer, including Otherside (IE); Rock Werchter (BE); Kalorama (PT); Isle of Wight; Neighbourhood; Blue Dot; Y Not?; Camp Bestival (all UK) with more to be announced. CMAT will also support Florence + The Machine at her outdoor shows in Dublin and Belfast, and First Aid Kid at their London outdoor date. Further dates to follow.
