NASHVILLE, TN (Columbia Records) – Columbia Nashville recording artist Trent Willmon is currently in the studio working on his sophomore release with famed producer Frank Rogers (Brad Paisley, Darrell Worley). The Franklin, Tennessee, studio they're using – The Castle - was the one-time home of the notorious gangster Al Capone.
Trent has recorded six songs so far for the upcoming album (title to be determined) using a line-up of world class musicians including Austin resident David Grissom, Chad Cromwell and JT Corenflos, among others. This music promises to be more of what made Trent a stand-out artist on his debut album – heartfelt lyrics, a passionate delivery and a genuine country sound.
'Trent's new record is what you get when you see Trent play live,' says Rogers. 'It's energetic, passionate and raw. It's Trent singing his heart out with a rockin' honky tonk band behind him. Same soul as the first record, we just turned the guitars up.'
'First of all, I am an enormous Trent Willmon fan,' says John Grady, President Sony Nashville. 'He is not just a country singer, he is a poet, an artisan and quite simply the most interesting man I have met in my stay in Nashville. I challenged Trent and producer Frank Rogers to explore and grow on this next record and they have done both, with enormous success.'
When choosing songs for his new album, Trent included two of his own - 'Surprise' and 'So Am I' – each successfully road tested. He also recorded songs from writers such as Marv Green, Phillip White, Jimmy Melton, Brett James and Doug Johnson. Of the finished cuts, there are currently two strong contenders for the first single which will be sent to radio at the first of the year.
Country music fans were introduced to this multi-talented artist (musician, songwriter, welder, craftsman, barbequer, team roper, hunter) through songs like 'Beer Man,' 'Dixie Rose Deluxe's' and 'Home Sweet Holiday Inn' from his self-titled 2004 debut album. His appeal reached beyond the country music media and resulted in appearances on WE's 'Three Men & A Chick Flick' and Food Network's 'Emeril' and 'Food Secrets of Country Music Stars.' Hotel giant Holiday Inn picked up his 'Home Sweet Holiday Inn' for a national commercial that ran over the summer and early Fall.
The new year holds an extensive radio and concert tour across the U.S. as well as the release of his sophomore album.
