BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON (Top40 Charts/ Clickpop Records) - Rising Bellingham, Wash.-based indie Clickpop Records, original label home of Reprise act Idiot Pilot, has announced a distribution deal with Burnside Distribution Corp. (BDC), one of the leading national indie distributors.
Formed in 2004 to market Strange We Should Meet Here, Idiot Pilot's promising debut, subsequently re-released in May 2005 by Reprise Records, Clickpop Records has tapped into an eclectic reservoir of new talent based in the Pacific Northwest, including folk rock, punk, ambient and techno artists. With the new pact, Clickpop hopes to bring this regional pool of talent some national exposure.
The first two releases under the non-exclusive deal are folk rock singer-songwriter Kristin Allen-Zito's album Helium and acoustic ambient artist Darin Schaffer's self-titled CD, both slated for January 2006. Other Clickpop artists include Delay (edgy space rock), Hakea (ambient techno), Scatterbox (punk), all-girl band The Trucks (trashy electro rock), Prosser (atmospheric folk pop) and ISOPAL (melodic space rock).
'I'm very excited about our deal with Burnside,' says Paul Turpin, label co-owner and head of production, who co-helmed Idiot Pilot's debut, 'because it goes hand-in-hand with our goal, which is to find exciting Pacific Northwest talent - specifically from Bellingham - and make that music available to a wider audience. Working with a top national distributor like Burnside, which is also based in the Pacific Northwest, our artists have the opportunity to take their music to the next level. It's a natural fit for both companies.'
'We were very lucky to find a company that matches our philosophy here at Clickpop,' says label manager/co-owner Dave Richards. 'Burnside has the resources to help us get national exposure for our artists, and also has the same dedication to quality that we have. They care about music as much as we do, which is not always the case in this industry.'
Bill McNally, Vice President of Portland, Ore.-based Burnside, echoes Richards' sentiment: 'Burnside has always tried to find the most interesting and exciting music available, no matter how large or small the label. We strive to make each title as important to our sales staff and customers as it is to our labels. We are proud to be a part of Clickpop Records' future.'
