ATLANTA (CDnow) - New Jersey's finest, Bruce Springsteen, has been down south in recent weeks, as the truly devoted members of "The Church of the Boss" have been all too aware -- the exchange of news of his whereabouts on the Internet in Springsteen newsgroups has been rampant. And for those not keeping score, speculation that Springsteen has regrouped with old friends to record new tracks is no longer speculation. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Wednesday (Feb. 6) that E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren told ESPN Radio, "Last week in Atlanta we got together. It was supposed to be a big secret, but it's all over every Web site there is. There were spies in the [recording studio] parking lot when we were down there, from Italy." Lofgren says the Atlanta recording dates are "the first step of what would have to be many" before a new album would be completed. The Journal says that after an eight-day stay at the Four Seasons hotel in Midtown, Springsteen has checked out. The last studio album of all new material by Springsteen and the E Street Band came out 18 years ago, Born in the U.S.A. It's not yet known if Springsteen has in fact regrouped the entire E Street Band, but word of a new album is welcome relief to fans -- 1995's The Ghost of Tom Joad was the last solo album of all new material.
