HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - After spending a week in Hartford Hospital for treatment of a urinary tract infection, Katharine Hepburn is expected to sent home by this weekend, a hospital spokesman said Wednesday. Earlier this week, the hospital said the infection had been taken care of, but doctors were working with the 94-year-old actress to improve her mobility, which they said suffered while she was bedridden. "Our medical staff has seen a great deal of improvement in the past 24 hours in terms of her getting around," spokesman James Battaglio said Wednesday. "She's made progress physically." Battaglio said Hepburn would continue to receive physical therapy to improve her ability to sit up, walk and move about, "with the hope and intent of discharging her no later than the week's end." Hepburn has been hospitalized since July 1.
During her 60-year career, Hepburn was nominated for a record-tying 12 Academy Awards and won for "Morning Glory," 1933; "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," 1967; "A Lion in Winter," 1968; and "On Golden Pond," 1981.
