NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - While Garth Brooks has been topping the charts in America for more than a decade, the superstar has never hit the Number One spot in the U.K. That is all about to change, as Brooks now has a Number One song in the U.K. as a songwriter. Brooks's self-penned "If Tomorrow Never Comes," which was his first Number One song on US Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in 1989, was recently covered by former Boyzone lead singer Ronan Keating.

Keating's cover of Brooks's song is already Number 13 in Australia and Number Two in Norway on Billboard's Hits Of The World chart. Based on midweek sales information, the single debuted at Number One in the U.K. on Sunday (May 19).

Brooks's 1989 hit didn't chart on the British singles tally at all. In fact, the singer made his first appearance on that list in 1992 with "Shameless," which peaked at Number 71. As an artist, Brooks's biggest U.K. hit is the double-sided "The Red Strokes"/"Ain't Going Down," which peaked at Number 13 in 1994.
