TORONTO, Canada (Skylar Entertainment) - Get ready for one of Scanadavia's most eccentric and evocative pop-rock acts. 22-Pistepirkko will be at this year's Canadian
Music Week in Toronto, Ontario for the
Music Export Finland Showcase and South By South West in Austin,
Texas with a couple showcases added in Los Angeles and New York.
22-Pistepirkko's has a long and interesting history performing all over Europe for the last twenty five years and this will be their first trip to North America. Their sound has been described as luminous, surreal, guitar-based electro-pop and proto-garage-psychedelic blended with elements of acoustic folk and spaced-out bohemian blues-rock.
22-Pistepirkko rose from the ashes of a punk rock project called Matti M?t? & SS. The band has always been crystal clear about its goals: to carve out a career in the international music scene; to embrace new experiences and sounds; to deliver honest, adventurous performances; to tell strong, funny, sad, happy, weird stories; and to play them for people.
In 2005, the band consisting of brothers Asko (bass, organ, electronic) and PK Ker?nen (vocals, guitar) and childhood friend Espe Haverinen (drums, shakers, vocals) released their 10th album Drops & Kicks, which they've produced in Gothenburg, Sweden together with Kalle Gustafsson of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Michael Ilbert (The Hives) and John Hanlon (engineer/producer for Neil Young).
For a 2007 release and their first in North America the band is going to work with American producer: KRAMER (Shimmydisc, Bongwater, Ween, Urge Overkill, a.m.o.) Recently they came also to the attention of a younger US audience, they haven't thought of before: Snowboarding College Kids. They started digging their song "(Just a) Little Bit More" (from Rumble City Lala Land), which is the starting song in a snow board DVD, entitled: Follow Me Around (via Mack Dawg).
The band has founded their own label, Bone Voyage Recording Company, due to market and to relaunch their back-catalogue, as well as all of their future recordings with more self-determination. 22-Pistepirkko also has a biography out in Finland.
