Miami,Fl. (Top40 Charts/ WMC) - JAMES ZABIELA and NIC FANCIULLI-two of today's most exciting, talented and revered artists in contemporary dance culture-have announced they are joining forces to create a piece of dance music history as a new collaboration project ONE+ONE. Their new association encompasses a double-disc album set for release April 3 on Ministry Of Sound Recordings via Groove Distribution and major U.S. support tour for this spring on which they will exclusively debut the new Q2 Dual DJ.
ONE+ONE has struck a deal with Ministry of Sound Recordings for a unique album featuring not only a stellar track selection hand picked by Zabiela and Fanciulli, but several brand new songs produced by both separately and together. Also featured is Fanciulli's 'Cat out of the Bag' (Jim Rivers mix) and a track from his uber cool imprint Saved Records' by Motormark called 'Note To Self.' Zabiela's mash-up of Alcatraz's "Give Me Luv" and Paul Woolford's "Erotic Discourse"-as heard on KCRW and the BBC's Radio One-will also be included in the track listing. More details on the album will be released at a later date.
In addition, the concept will encompass a world tour, starting at Miami's Winter Music Conference 2007 with the ONE+ONE launch party March 23 at The Fifth. On this tour, ONE+ONE will debut a brand-new piece of DJ equipment called the Q2 Dual DJ. Not only does the Q2 Dual DJ allow Zabiela and Fanciulli to independently cue different sources—for example, CDJs and laptops-it will allow them to hear what the other is doing on the decks resulting in better programmed sets. Simply put, the device frees them from sharing headphones when DJing back to back. ONE+ONE will be the first DJ artists to use the product extensively on tour.
The North American leg, set to kick off in May, will have the pair touring like rock stars as they get aboard a tour bus and make their way around all corners of the country with up to five gigs per week. The tour will spend a month in the U.K.'s hotspots, a month in Asia and Australia trailed by a full three months in Europe centered around Ibiza's summer season where ONE+ONE will have a series of gigs at the world famous We Love Sundays weekly at Space. Further details about the ONE+ONE tour and album will be revealed at a later date.
"Even though Nic and I are relatively young DJs compared to most, we've been touring heavily on our own for a few years now,' states James Zabiela. 'So when we did a quick tour of Australia and Asia last year we decided that it's much more fun to go with someone else. I always wanted more hands in the DJ booth and now that I have them, we'll be using the Q2 Dual DJ which will allow us to independently cue things as well as play with FX units, laptops and CDJs of course."
Fanciulli further explains: "We both started off with the same musical background and as time went on, we developed our own styles. When we put them together it works well and we seem to compliment each other musically. Normally when making an album I panic about getting things done, but this has been a totally different process. I've really enjoyed it; James and I bounce off each other and help one another out if the other is struggling. I'm so looking forward to getting this tour on the road."
Nic Fanciulli has developed into a modest global superstar via his four residencies across the world with his beloved ClubClass in London, Space-Miami, Space-Ibiza and the magnificent Il Muretto in Venice, Italy. Production-wise he has worked alongside Andy Chatterley, under the Skylark and Buick Project monikers with huge success, beginning with an Essential new tune on BBC Radio 1 for 'That's More Like It' (Overall Fanciulli has had five different Essential new tunes on Pete Tongs legendary U.K. show) to the more recent sublime acid house 'Lucky Heather/Cat Out of the Bag,' which was one of the highest selling underground dance records of 2006 and was voted by the Space Ibiza promoters as one of the three biggest records of the summer at this legendary club. He also has a substantial catalogue of productions under his belt already and is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and forward thinking producers in the industry. Most recently, Fanciulli garnered a Grammy Award nomination no less for Buick Project's remix of Tiefschwarz/Tracey Thorn's song 'Damage.' Fanciulli has also remixed for the likes of Deep Dish, Kylie Minogue, Timo Maas, Tiefschwarz and Underworld, among others. His critically acclaimed albums for Renaissance show he's at home in the studio with new material coming all the time.
A technical wizard and with a love of all things sci-fi, James Zabiela along with Fanciulli is at the forefront of new DJ/production talent smashing the glass ceiling of the global superstars. He's played to a room full of suited Japanese businessmen when showcasing Pioneer's latest equipment, in front of 60,000 people in South America and just about every imaginable situation in-between. From the beginnings of winning a bedroom DJ competition to Sasha personally signing James to his DJ agency Excession things have skyrocketed. Armed with his fully loaded laptop, effects units, CDs and other box of tricks, James has created his own place on the scene. He holds residencies at Space–Ibiza and Pacha-New York and had successful compilations on Renaissance as well as EPs and singles, The Utilities EP and Weird Science respectively. With the likes of Sasha, Royksopp and Depeche Mode calling upon him for remixes, Zabiela's re-rub of 'Seal Clubbing' by Charlie May vs Sasha spent several weeks at No 1 in both the Beatport and DJ Download sales charts. In 2006 James was awarded the People's Choice accolade as Best International DJ' at the Australian Dance Music Awards.
