MIAMI, Fl. (Top 40 Charts) Colombia's hip-shaking Shakira took home five awards at the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards Latin America Thursday (Oct. 24) night in Miami.

Shakira - who also performed on the show - was honored with two of the night's biggest awards, Artist of the Year and Video of the Year, as well as Best Artist (North), Best Pop Artist of the Year, and Best Female Artist of the Year.

La Ley was the only other multiple winner with two tongue-shaped trophies for Best Rock Artist of the Year and Best Group or Duo of the Year. Meanwhile, in the international categories, Red Hot Chili Peppers grabbed Best Rock Artist, Avril Lavigne got the Best New Artist nod, and Pink was named Best Pop Artist.

Among the highlights of the show were Kinky and Paulina Rubio's closing performance of Kiss' "I Was Made for Loving You" and Michelle Branch and Carlos Santana's performance of "The Game of Love," from his new Shaman album. The awards will re-air on MTV2 on Saturday (Oct. 26).
