(Launch) - Deftones frontman Chino Moreno is continuing work on the debut album from his side gig, Team Sleep. The yet-to-be-titled, year-long project took great leaps forward this spring with recording sessions in Seattle with Deftones producer Terry Date, and is now slated for release in early 2002. Team Sleep also features DJ Crook and longtime Moreno friend Todd Wilkinson. The Deftones' Abe Cunningham, Stephan Carpenter and Frank Delgado also contribute. Meanwhile, the other members of the Deftones continue to explore their own side projects. Guitarist Carpenter has been recording with Cypress Hill's B-Real and Fear Factory's Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera under the name Kush. Drummer Cunningham has dusted off tracks from his pre-Deftones group, Phallucy, for future release; and DJ Delgado continues to work with DJ Epik and the aforementioned DJ Crook in a trio called the Co-Defendants. As for bassist Chi Cheng, he released a spoken-word CD last summer.
