New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - This year, one of the highlights of the 8th annual Ponderosa Stomp - April 28 and 29 at the House of Blues in New Orleans - will surely be the reunion of
Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney of the Flamin' Groovies. As the twin creative engines behind the original Groovies line-up, Jordan and Loney took the concept of greasy, good-time, high energy rock & roll to its face-melting limits, and created a template for countless underground American bands in the process. But Jordan and Loney haven't shared a stage since 1971.
Their performance is the latest example of what has become a P-Stomp tradition of reuniting legendary, unsung musicians who haven't performed together - or sometimes even spoken - in decades. Reconnecting these musicians and burnishing their legacy is one of the P-Stomp's chief objectives.
Here are some examples of other historic, exclusive P-Stomp reunions from years past.
2008
* Dr. John reunites with legendary New Orleans musicians Wardell Quezergue and Zigaboo Modeliste to play a set of songs he recorded in the 1950s/60s under his original name, Mac Rebennack.
* The Green Fuz, a Texas garage band with just one infamous single to their credit, plays their first show since 1968 or '69 (the band is so obscure even they don't know for sure!).
2006
* Soul man Syl Johnson reunites with the Hi Rhythm Section, the backing band on all his early 1970s recordings
2005
* Lady Bo and Clifton James team up for the first time since playing in Bo Diddley's band in the 1950s.
2004
* Clarence "Frogman" Henry and Barbara Lynn, leading lights of the early 1960s package tours, perform a song together for the first time in decades.
2003
* Sun Records alumni James Burton and Dale Hawkins perform together for the first time in 40 years, a pairing to be reprised at the 2009 Stomp.
* Jody Williams, Hubert Sumlin, and Henry Gray - all members of Howlin' Wolf's Chicago band - reunite for first time since 1955.
2002
* Dave Bartholomew reunites with Earl Palmer, Herbert Hardesty and Ernest McLean, the last surviving band members of his band which played on sides by Fats Domino, Smiley Lewis, and others.
