New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - 'Van Gogh by Van Eck' is a musical and visual journey into the heart and soul of Dutch painter and volatile artistic genius
Vincent Van Gogh. Dutch producer, recording artist, and art lover Diederick van Eck sings from Van Gogh's point of view, revealing details of the artist's life reflected in 12 of his most famous paintings. This deluxe 44-page art book music CD will be released widely this month via
Private Sound Records. It includes glorious reproductions of Van Gogh's paintings from original transparencies in Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum.
More than a year of exhaustive research on Van Gogh's life and letters, with the help of the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam, has resulted in a powerful and moving concept album and a detailed, highly designed 44-page companion art book. 'Van Gogh by Van Eck' is filled with music that stirs emotions of love, longing, joy and despair, using the artistic masterpieces of Van Gogh to illustrate the tortured life journey of one of the most recognized artists of all time.
Van Eck observes, "I have always looked for inspiration and leadership-for a sense that problems can be solved, and for the will and vision to stay the course. I believe that van Gogh epitomized those very qualities - focus, determination and perseverance - one of the many reasons I wanted to express his art in music. Vincent van Gogh was a very complex and enigmatic character. He was very socially awkward, and he suffered from some highly disturbing health problems, but beyond that basic profile, van Gogh was far from what the average modern person believes - a raving madman who cut off his ear; an isolated and tragic loner; an artistic failure who was recognized only after his death. In reality - Van Gogh was an amazing man who epitomized sacrifice, passion, perseverance, focus, loyalty and being true to one's self. And far from being a timid sheep in an artistic herd - he was a rebel, an innovator, a visionary and a courageous leader. When I understood that, I kne w that he was someone whose work and vision I would express with music."
In order to appeal to many different listeners, Van Eck aimed to make the music timeless and universal. While writing, he turned to the theory of synesthesia: sound stimulating the visualization of color and visa-versa; a concept he learned from the work of legendary producer Quincy Jones.
