NEW YORK (DMB Fans Website) - The Dave Matthews Band delivered the concert of their careers in front of more than 100,000 fans in New York City's Central Park Wednesday (September 24). The show, dubbed AOL's Concert For The Schools, raised more than $2 million on behalf of New York City's education system. After the first song, lead singer Dave Matthews told the audience, "So nice to run into you in the park here, the greatest park in the world, and the greatest city in world." The Dave Matthews Band delighted the crowd with 20 songs during their three-hour set. They were joined mid-set by guitarist Warren Hayes of Gov't Mule, who proceeded to jam out with the DMB on such songs as "Cortez The Killer" and "Jimi Thing." Dave Matthews said he was honored to be playing Central Park: "there really could be no greater honor for us then to play here and then the fact that it benefits the future of our country by helping the schools, which is something that's too often is neglected it seems for other things, is just an enormous shiny cherry on top." Violinist Boyd Tinsley took a moment to recognize the concert's main objective: aiding public schools! "We're just really happy to be able to give back to the kids here, especially in music education, especially now in a time when there are so many budget cuts going on in the schools and education, to give something back so that kids can have an opportunity to someday do what we do." New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg said the members of the Dave Matthews Band are not just great musicians, but great citizens as well, because they donated their time to help the city's schools. "The Dave Matthews Band, they care. They're great musicians but they are, not corporate citizens, they're individual citizens. They know what society really needs and rather than just talk about it, they actually go out and do something," Bloomberg said.
