LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Virgin Records) - The Libertines performed to fans for the first time since their reformation last night in London. Carl Barat, Pete Doherty, John Hassall and Gary Powell played a raucous set at the Forum in Kentish Town, opening up with early favourite 'Horrorshow'. Coming onstage to Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' while photos from throughout their career were shown, the 'Up The Bracket' backdrop was unveiled and the foursome were met with wild screams from the crowd. It wasn't until third track 'Vertigo' that Doherty and Barat shared the central mic in trademark fashion, to the delight of a venue filled with indie celebs including Amy Winehouse. The biggest cheers were reserved for the back-to-back 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun' and 'Time For Heroes', as well as a lovably shambolic 'Death On The Stairs'. Rare outings were given for 'Lust of the Libertines' and 'The Delaney', and a lengthy encore included the likes of 'What A Waster' and I Get Along', as Barat stripped to a vest and Doherty chain-smoked. The whole band lengthily embraced at the end of the gig, before bowing arm in arm to the jubliant audience. The Libertines are set to perform at Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend.
