NEW YORK (Time-Life Records press) - Anticipation is peaked for the January 27 release of Time-Life Music's "Committed 2 Rock" (C2R) album. With the combined launch of modern rock radio and national TV campaigns that will include MTV, the cutting-edge collection of upbeat and positive hits from today's most popular modern and alternative music acts has garnered Time-Life's largest pre-order from major music retailers.

The artists featured on "Committed 2 Rock" are wide ranging: from Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World; to Nickelback, 311 and Moby; to P.O.D., Jars of Clay, Lifehouse and D.C. Talk. With acts like that, "Committed 2 Rock" finds itself in an influential position with young music fans...and that's exactly what Grammy-winning artist/producer David Pack had in mind.

The idea for the positive music project first came to Pack, the former Ambrosia frontman, in 1996 when he read a Los Angeles Times story about a teenage couple that jumped from a Rancho Palos Verdes, California cliff as part of a suicide pact. This story made a particularly strong impact on Pack as it occurred near the South Bay home where he was raising his own children. He immediately joined Community Teen Outreach, serving as board member and president, and began doing work with American Institute of Suicidology and Campus Crusade.
However, Pack knew he could do more: "Those two kids who jumped had everything going for them. Heidi was a sweet, popular 16 year old with perfect looks and a warm personality, a real sports loving all-American kid. And her friend Chris was a young filmmaker admired by everyone in high school. Both lived in gorgeous Palos Verdes with good families...this chilled me to the bone," says Pack. "I lived there with my two teen-agers. It was a true awakening. So I formed a media company, Mpowered Ideas, to produce cutting-edge, positive youth oriented entertainment products, then approached Time Life Music with the "Committed 2 Rock" series concept."

In USA Today (November 14, 2003), Pack told Edna Gunderson "I saw a void in mainstream products. I thought why not get the best acts in modern rock and contemporary Christian music on an upbeat soundtrack to inspire young people of any race, creed or color? This is an adrenalin rush of positivity, the kind of euphoria that inspires positive life choices. This is cutting-edge modern rock, but our filtering process excluded the dark and depressing images. People underestimate the power of music, and music is what runs through young people's minds more than all other media."

David's company, Mpowered Ideas - including former Mix magazine founder/chief editor David Schwartz, and Del Williams, President of Alternative Radio Marketing Strategies (ARMS Division) - is also helping Time Life market C2R by creating radio spots and securing time on key U.S. alternative stations such as KROQ/Los Angeles, WXRK/New York City, KNDD/Seattle, KNRK/Portland, WBRU/Providence, WPLY/Philadelphia, WAQZ/Cincinnati, KENZ/Salt Lake City, KFMA/Tucson, KEDJ/ Phoenix, WHFS/DC and several others.

"Committed 2 Rock" - highlighted by 16 platinum artists with over 115 million combined U.S. album sales - features an inspired variety of songs, including: "Learn To Fly" (Foo Fighters), "I Did It" (Dave Matthews Band)," "Alive" (P.O.D.) and "Middle" (Jimmy Eat World). The CD also marks the first time Creed, who contributed their smash "Higher," have permitted one of their songs to appear on a compilation CD.

Michael Tait, vocalist for C2R featured band DC Talk, says: "Rock Music has always been a powerful force on society. It has caused political change, it has caused social change, and it has caused spiritual change. This is such a great project to be a part of. For those "Committed 2 Rock", we salute you."

Freddi Szilagi, Vice President of Time-Life Music's Retail & Special markets, adds: "Time-Life is thrilled to be releasing "Committed 2 Rock". We've assembled the hottest acts in Modern Rock for a collection that marks an exciting new direction for Time-Life. "Committed 2 Rock" will speak loudly to today's audience with 18 tracks that Positively Rock."
