New York, NY (Top40 Charts / Gerry Perlinski) New York based drummer, educator, and author Dan Duggins (Zigmat, Hot Rod Circuit, The
Queen Killing Kings, Lazycain) suffered a massive stroke on April 27, 2010 due to a blood clot in his neck. The thirty-five-year-old Richmond, Virginia, native was en route to a gig in New Jersey with NYC songwriter Lisa Bianco's band and complained of severe pain in his head. His bandmates took him to Staten Island Medical Center, where he suffered a stroke after being admitted. The bandmates' quick thinking and Bianco's medical background proved invaluable during this frightening situation.
Originally in what is known as a "locked in" state-aware of his circumstances but unable to move-Duggins has made tremendous progress in the year since his incident.
But, as many other musicians, Dan currently does not have health insurance. A benefit to raise money for Dan's medical costs will be held on April 22nd, 2011 at Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ.
Bands on the bill include Lisa Bianco, Waking Lights, Gerry Perlinski, Old Wives, plus special guests.
Benefit organizer and former Duggins bandmate, Gerry Perlinski has this to say, "Dan is an amazing drummer, performer and all around great guy. Although he may still have a long road ahead, his positive spirit and sheer determination shines through and has been inspiration to us on many levels. We are all coming out on this night to show him support and give him a big thumbs up!"
