Zambaleta Showcases The Mission District's Best Musical Talent At Two-day Festival
San Francisco, CA (Top40 Charts/ Zambaleta) Zambaleta, San Francisco"s resource for the world music and dance community, will fuel its penchant for joyous gatherings with a two-day celebration of the Mission District"s best musical talents at a music festival on Saturday May 7, 2011, from 1pm to 12am and Sunday May 8, from 12pm to 8pm.

Zambaleta-whose name conveys the spirit of a spontaneous cacophonous celebration in Egyptian slang-continues to manifest its vision for community, culture and creativity with the May 7-8 Walk Like An Egyptian festival, which takes place at the Restoration Workshop, 630 Treat Ave. San Francisco, only two blocks from the school"s headquarters on 19th Street. Musicians, neighbors, and the entire Bay Area community are invited to join.

Such a gathering reflects Zambaleta"s role as a nexus of musical talent in the Bay Area. Zambaleta redefines World Music beyond exotic sounds and ethnic folk styles to encompass all the music in our world. Since it opened in 2009, the school has become a new epicenter for many of the Bay Area's musical communities, offering an eclectic and carefully curated menu of music and dance classes from around the world. At the heart of Zambaleta is a vision to foster spontaneous gatherings, hootenannies, jam sessions and otherwise unique opportunities for musicians of all levels to play or learn to play.

"In Egyptian slang, the term 'Zambaleta" is used to describe a spontaneous cacophony. And as we have seen in recent events, zambaletas are not necessarily inconsequential. The Egyptian revolution started with a zambaleta," says founder Mina Girgis. "We hope Zambaleta"s spirit of possibility and accessibility continues to impact our community in unforeseen ways."
The weekend line-up reflects Zambaleta"s inclusive perspective. The two-day event features many of the Bay Area"s best performers, from blues to folk, jug bands to indie, including music from The Blank Tapes, Buxter Hoot"n, Foxtail Brigade and Quinn DeVeaux. Participating restaurants include Hog & Rocks, Beretta and Star Belly.
