Girlie Action NY Shows Coming Up
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Girlie Action) June 14th @ Bowery Ballroom - The Gift
Portuguese psych-pop group The Gift is making a rare U.S. appearance, where they'll be headlining Bowery Ballroom on June 14th, w/ support from Xylos. The band's beautiful new album Explode is getting a U.S. release in September, but they have plenty of new content to share if you can't wait until then. You can check out their videos for "Made For You" (starring Lukas Haas & Isabel Lucas!) and the masterfully shot video for "RGB." The band has been together since 1994, and they most recently toured the U.S. with The Flaming Lips in 2003. The band, featuring their amazingly versatile lead singer Sonia Tavares, is incredibly DIY for being one of the top-selling artists in Europe. They manage themselves, finance their own recordings, and produce some of the most visually-stunning live shows around.

Tuesday, June 14 @ Joe's Pub
AGNES OBEL

Over the last year, Agnes has become something of a phenomenon overseas and stateside, going platinum (100.000 albums) in France, double platinum in Denmark, and sold out venues across Europe. The Danish songwriter/composer Agnes Obel also just released her new EP, iTunes Live From Paris, exclusively through iTunes on May 31st, and is in the midst of her first American tour. Recorded at the iTunes Opera Store in Paris in March, the EP features some of Agnes' classic tracks from her debut record, Philharmonics, as well as Agnes' haunting take on Elliott Smith's "Between The Bars."

Wednesday, June 15 - The Bell House
Joan As Police Woman

Hailed by The New York Times, as an act who "creates dizzying, jazz-steeped rock music... ", Joan As Police Woman has been getting rave reviews internationally and released her latest record, The Deep Field, April 26 through PIAS. In the past she has collaborated with Antony (Antony and the Johnsons), Lou Reed, Sheryl Crow, Scissor Sisters, Rufus Wainwright and more. The Deep Field is Joan As Police Woman's most stirring work to date, full of her inimitable hybrid of soul and indie rock.

Wednesday, June 15 - Music Hall of Williamsburg
Thursday, June 16 - Webster Hall
Architecture In Helsinki

The Aussie band's new album, Moment Bends, is their most dancefloor friendly to date and has their slickest pop hooks yet. The first single "Contact High" has gotten a lot of praise in the blogosphere and is irresistibly catchy. Like a lot of the album, it sounds like quirky, twee indie pop mixed with 80's new wave. The surreal video for the song is worthy checking out - click HERE to watch it. The band was also recently asked by fellow Aussies, Cut Copy, to rework their song "Need You Now" - click HERE to hear Architecture's slow-burning, psychedelic-surf-pop version of that tune.

Sunday, June 19th @ Cameo Gallery (Northside Festival, w/ The Loom, Right On Dynamite, Deleted Scenes, Merrickans & more)

The show takes place during the day, with CPS headlining the showcase at 5:30pm. Whether performing on the subway platforms, or gracing the finest stages the city has to offer, Christopher always his audiences spellbound, in awe of his masterful fingerpicking guitar style and heartfelt delivery. This is a guy you need to see to believe- you can download his gorgeous Daytrotter Session, and be sure to check out his YouTube channel to see what his live show has to offer (hint: CPS isn't your typical singer-songwriter). Stelling is going into the studio w/ Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket) in August to record what will be his first proper studio album...get excited!

Sunday, June 19 - Music Hall of Williamsburg (Northside Festival, w/Midnight Magic, Miracles Club, & DFA DJ's)
YACHT

YACHT are on the cusp of releasing Shangri-La, their new album for DFA Records and the follow-up to See Mystery Lights, which got rave reviews everywhere from NPR to Pitchfork to Rolling Stone. Each song on Shangri-La, which is out 6/21, touches on multiple genres, ranging from disco to psychedelia to krautrock to punk - all coming together to create a unique breed of artful pop music. The album also has a clear concept, with a lyrical themes about mankind's constant search for utopia, and how it always ends in failure. YACHT have released the first two tracks off it - "Utopia," a frantic slice of disco-funk...and the dark synth-pop anthem, "Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire)." Both have been acclaimed by the international blogosphere.

Tuesday, June 21 - The Bell House
Thursday, June 23 - Bed-In Session - Ace Hotel (2pm - Private/RSVP only)
Thursday, June 23 - Bowery Ballroom w/ Haley Bonar and Daniel Martin Moore
HOLCOMBE WALLER

"Waller's new album, Into the Dark Unknown, is a come-to-Jesus moment come to life, a clear-eyed look at confusion that's as arresting as it is intimate. The album leaves Waller's voice front and center, and the result is strong, theatrical and wonderfully nuanced, all at the same time." - NPR. Holcombe's intimate chamber folk has been getting a lot of rave reviews lately - check out The New York Times and NPR's high praise for Holcombe's performances at SXSW. Also check out Holcombe's performance on WNYC's Soundcheck HERE for a sample of his stripped down live set. Holcombe is preparing to re-release his latest record Into The Dark Unknown on June 21st via Napoleon Records. Holcombe Waller will play also a Ben-In Session at New York's Ace Hotel on June 23rd .

Wednesday, June 22 - Santos Party House (Opening of the Bicycle Film Festival)
Rubblebucket

When The Bicycle Film Festival went looking for their headliner for their opening night, Rubblebucket was an obvious choice. The band's is full of avid cyclists - the band wrote an ode to the elegant 2-wheeled contraption on their last record, the simply titled "Bikes." They've also been turning heads with their blend of Fela Kuti style afrobeat with dancy indie pop. Last month, Stereogum praised the band, premiering the band's latest video for "Silly Fathers," and just this week The Street Date and Paste Magazine gave the band glowing reviews, with the latter writing that "I would call them one of the year's most promising young bands-but they're already better than that." The band's show at Santos will be a special one for the band. Their new record Omega La La (Sin Duda Records, Download HERE) is hitting stores the previous day. The new album is a trip, showing off not only the band's virtuosity, but a;s DFA producer Eric Broucek's (LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy, Hercules and Love Affair) clean, minimal production.

Sunday, June 26 - Bowery Ballroom
Pajama Club

Crowded House frontman and songwriter Neil Finn has formed a new band with his wife Sharon called Pajama Club. Their self-titled debut is out Sept 13th and is a mixture of groove-based garage rock and electronic bleeps and squelches. Neil and Sharon trade off playful yet often haunting vocals, and Neil's mastery of pop songcraft is evident in the ample hooks and winding song structures of each track. Click HERE to listen to "From A Friend To A Friend," which is a perfect slice of indie pop juxtaposed with noisy sheets of guitar lurking beneath.

Wednesday, June 29 - Glasslands
The Shivers

On 6/29, The Shivers are playing Glasslands. Quick rundown if you're not familiar with them. They just released their latest record More via Silence Breaks (You can download the record HERE). Short story, The Shivers hail from Queens, NY, and are fronted by songwriters Keith Zarriello and Jo Schornikow. Short story: The band scraped together enough cash together to travel to Manchester, England to record to tape in an all analog studio. The resulting album, More, runs the gamut of American rock 'n' roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone.
