WCPE And Quail Ridge Present Durham Symphony
Wake Forest, NC (Top40 Charts/ WCPE FM) WCPE Community and Arts Liaison Tara Lynn announces the June edition of the WCPE Local Arts Series in collaboration with Quail Ridge Books and Music. The Conductor and Music Director William Henry Curry presents Durham Symphony: More than a Community Orchestra - Our Mission and Vision for the Future. This free event is on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, 7:30 p.m. at Quail Ridge Books and Music, 3522 Wade Avenue, Raleigh, NC.

A trio from the Durham Symphony will perform Haydn's "London Trio No.1 in C Major" plus other classical favorites. Members of the trio are: Anne Aitchison, flute; Dorothy Pugh, violin; Julius Prescott, cello.

An interview with Curry will air on WCPE's weekly program Preview!, which airs from 6 - 9 p.m., with host Paul Jordan on Sunday, June 26, 2011. Curry discusses his growth as a conductor, experiences with the state orchestra as well as his success with and vision for the Durham Symphony.

"I'm sticking to my programming credos of doing Top 40 favorites because I believe those draw an audience," says Curry. "I believe that's how you make an orchestra better- to play pieces they have some familiarity with, but each rehearsal becomes, then, a master class- how to get it to the next level."

"The other part of my credo is to do American music," he adds. "You'd be surprised how many American orchestras don't do any American music."

WCPE's Tara Lynn says, "It's refreshing to stop talking about orchestras that are failing all around the country and, instead, focus on a success story. I also think the audience will enjoy hearing Curry's secret to keeping the orchestra's sound fresh while he continues to achieve a new level of excellence."
