Institute of Contemporary Music
Performance songwriting student Karen
Sheridan has been selected to support trip/hop artists LAMB with her band 'He Who Wishes' at the prestigious London venue Somerset House on Saturday 16th July 2011.
Karen was selected as part of the 'What Next?' project where students of the arts have been collaborating in workshops that focused on writing new music to perform live on the Somerset House Summer Series stage. Music industry professionals were on hand to provide guidance and mentoring in songwriting and performance. The Institute was approached by the project's organiser to offer this opportunity to their songwriting students, of which Karen was selected to perform.
With regards to being chosen for this opportunity and her experience so far, Karen had this to say
"I am so excited about this opportunity and it's thanks to the Institute I've got the confidence, know-how and musicianship to go out there into the real world of performing. Not only do we have incredible tutors at the school, but we learn how to promote and prepare ourselves for the tough real world of the music industry. The Institute has given me the support and contacts to make my dream a reality! "
2011 has seen many of the Institute's students perform at some of the UK top festivals including songwriting alumnus Robbie Boyd at Beachbreak Live which saw Tinie Tempah, White Lies, We Are Scientists, Katy B, Ed Sheeran play to over 20,000 people. Vocal Degree student Raphaella and her band performed at an exclusive private pre-match event for the UEFA Champions League final and Jack Cowens (Degree, drum) performed at the popular sport and music festival Snowbombing on 5th April in Austria.
