LOS ANGELES (Blackmon Enterprises) - It used to be that Gospel meant a specific sound. It brought to mind syncopated, passionate praise music rooted in the harmonies of the Episcopal & Protestant rhythms of African cultures. Singers such as Mahalia Jackson and the Blind Boys Of Alabama brought the music to audiences outside the church where it originated.

Others soon came along such as Aretha Franklin, The Staple Singers and Ray Charles, who created secular soul music from it. Things have changed a lot since then, but the energy, optimism and message of the music today remain the same. Today's young performers display a tremendous knowledge of the history of the genre, respecting it as they extend it.

Gospel Hit-Breakers Independent Showcases & Mixers bring together some of the hottest young artist from across the country to showcase everything from contemporary Gospel to Hip Hop, Gospel Jazz and stand up comedy. Future Gospel stars who have participated in the showcases include NYSA SHENAY, EUGENE COME, TRACEY WORTH, BISHOP NEIL ROBERSON, MARK ALLEN FELTON, RON BROWN, AL FONS GEORGE, TACHINA DANIELLE, SISTA KEE, MIA "SUNNY HAWKINS, JAMIE JONES, LONNIE HUNTER, ALFONSO FREEMAN, DEVO. Rappers EASTWOOD Featuring TAKIM, GOSPEL GANGSTAZ AKA CAMP 8, CL RIDAZ, JAMIE JONES, AGERMAN, MEN OF PRAISE, DKG'S, E-TRYBE and CATCH 2.

"California is tremendously rich in talent regarding Gospel music," says LaMarr Blackmon, VP of Marketing for Blackmon Enterprises. Examples of that talent are evident during every showcase. Keeping my ears to the streets and my doors open for positive clean talent is what has made Gospel Hit-Breakers Independent Showcases hit it off from the start.

Hollywood, CA. as part of The Urban Gospel Alliance's Urban Gospel Music Week festivities which climax with the Urban Gospel Industry Awards & Conference July 14th-17th at the Riverside Convention Center, in Riverside CA.
