BANDS

Young Hines - https://www.facebook.com/younghinesmusic
A touch of British nostalgia merged with the soul of the Delta blues, Young Hines moved to Nashville where he joined Brendan Benson's label Readymade. American Songwriter says of the Benson produced release, "Give Me My Change is brimming with vintage keyboard sounds and a wonderful, warm production." Hines will follow up last year's tour with The Raconteurs when he tours this May with Brendan Benson.

The Balconies - https://thebalconiesband.wordpress.com/
Siblings Stephen and Jacquie Neville and her boyfriend Liam Jaeger comprise Toronto/Ottawa trio, The Balconies.Female fronted rock and roll with a whole lotta power pop. Upon finishing the recording of the upcoming Kill Count EP with producer Jon Drew (Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up), the band has been hand-picked to play stages at North by Northeast, Canadian Music Week, Halifax Pop Explosion, Pop Montreal Festival, South by Southwest 2012 and more!

Paper Thick Walls - https://www.paperthickwalls.com/
Set to profound fictional story lines, Paper Thick Walls boy-girl swapped vocals and orchestral arrangements present an elegant mix of deep, reflective, and at times haunting music. The band's 2011 debut record "A Thousand Novels" claimed numerous "Best of 2011" lists and over 150 positive reviews. The band played key music festivals including NXNE, CMJ, Mid-Point Music Festival, and Summer Fest.
"Liar's Lawyer" Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2iJIN3TIHA

The Big Sleep - https://thebigsleep.net/

The hefty hooks and sugar-spun noise pop of Nature Experiments, the filler-free full-length Danny Barria and Sonya Balchandanihave hinted at since 2000 is as robust as a Big Sleep record gets, bursting at the seams with restless rhythms and choppy power chords, venomous vocals and blown-out beats, and effects pedals/synth pads that rub and ring out against some of the band's most climatic choruses yet .

"Ace" video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZp8vM2HaoY

Yukon Blonde - https://yukonblonde.com/
Over the past two years, Yukon Blonde has earned no shortage of acclaim for its hook-heavy brand of pop rock. " Yukon Blonde create folk-rock music that harkens back to groups such as Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young," says Under the Radar. "They also also possess the vocal-filled grooves of contemporary bands such as Fleet Foxes and Midlake." Currently wrapping up a 62 show tour of North America, these road warriors will be racking up yet more miles on the odometer in the very near future heading on tours across Australia, Europe and North America.
"Water" video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Bl8ubkqO8yY

The Damn Choir - https://www.thedamnchoir.com/
The Damn Choir layers vivid and biting lyrics over music that makes your heart beat faster. The bands second album entitled You're My Secret Called Fire will be released on May 8th, 2012. The album featuring an array of talented guest musicians and a 25 person choir, is wonderfully dark, as Gordon Robertson's lyrics take painful experiences to cultivate something beautiful.
"Noah" video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3lvIwbxIj0

Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons - https://www.corychisel.com/
Like many artists before him, Cory Chisel first connected with the power of song - and the spellbinding possibilities of live performance - through the music he heard in church. Chisel, the son of a Baptist preacher was raised in Babbitt, Minnesota and later Appleton, WI. Named one of Rolling Stone Magazine's "Best New Artists," His debut album Death Won't Send A Letter, received great critical acclaim both in the US and abroad. In 2010, he appeared along side Tom Waits, Jim James, Andrew Bird and more on the award winning Preservation Hall Jazz Band's album Preservation. He has performed at Glastonbury, Newport Folk Festival and Bonnaroo. Chisel's sophomore release, produced by Brendan Benson, is slated for release in the summer of 2012.

Sydney Wayser - https://www.sydneywayser.com/
Along the sonic tidal flats that Sydney Wayser built in her mind for her latest album, it is always sunny and 75 degrees. That this place is ostensibly fictional is no barrier to getting there, thanks to Wayser's third record, the gorgeous and varied Bell Choir Coast. It is an atlas, a map past difficult years and emotional terrain, to a place of self-understanding and agency. If you listen closely to Bell Choir Coast, you can hear fractures being set properly, wounds stitched and sutured. Wayser's voice is warm and close throughout, the effect of which is a leaning near, an intimacy shared.

Archie Powell And The Exports - https://www.archiepowellandtheexports.com/
Has bemused cynicism and ennui ever been so fun? Archie Powell & the Exports have made a career of grafting prismatic power pop and sardonic, dark looks at the world outside into guileless songs with hooks galore. Archie Powell makes it look simple; he is incapable of writing an un-danceable tune, whether he turns a jaundiced eye on the culture of self-medication or whips up a three minute heist story. Powell's writing could easily come from someone twice his age but it never feels studied - his humanity just shines through and demolishes any doubts about where he stands.

Scattered Trees -https://scatteredtreesmusic.com/
For Scattered Trees, Sympathy is a labor of love that almost didn't happen. The band grew up together in the outskirts of Chicago, playing music together in various groups over the years. They became a family in more ways than one, with some of the members sharing last names -albeit for different reasons. Scattered Trees became a staple of Chicago clubs, but as time passed, the band's members were drawn to various parts of the country. Scattered Trees as a band looked all but over. And then, tragedy struck. Lead singer Nate Eiesland's father passed away, and while mourning, Nate picked up his guitar again and started penning a record dedicated to his memory. Those songs became Sympathy.

Chamberlin - https://www.chamberlinband.com
Last fall, Roll Call Records' Chamberlin unveiled their five track covers EP, aptly titled Chamberlin Cabin Covers EP. Their latest effort finds the band adding their recognizably laid back flair to some of today's most popular songs by: Passion Pit, Cults, Vampire Weekend, Kanye West/Bon Iver, Foster the People. Recorded this past summer in their cabin tucked away in Vermont, Chamberlin chose which songs to cover based on fan voting through their official website.

Kellen & Me - https://www.kellenandme.com/
Kellen & Me is transversing new ground with his unique sound that emanates from this one-man ensemble. Kellen plays an electro-indie-folk-rock that evokes a sense of both future and past. His debut album is a blend of old style 1960's Lo-Fi rock, with High-Fi, philharmonic results.
"Why Are You" - music video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LqWJI4poYY

Ezra Furman - https://www.ezrafurman.com/
Ezra Furman is a man of contradictions. A typical live performance features ongoing conversations between artist and audience, with Furman manically wavering between fawning adulation for life and an acerbic wit reminiscent of a young and cerebral Dylan toying with a roomful of interviewers. Furman splices together folk sentimentality and punk energy to forge a style both beautiful and wild. A youth rooted in his spirituality combines with later experiences in the bruising, sweat-drenched mosh pits of basement punk concerts to the kitschy run-down cafes where he first tried playing his own song; producing heartfelt themes and archetypal imagery rendered with crackling energy and wit. His songs speak of the promise of youth and the fear associated with actively watching it slip away.

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound - https://jcbrooksandtheuptownsound.com/
Born in the great melting pot of Chicagoʼs Uptown neighborhood in 2007, guitarist Billy Bungeroth, drummer Kevin Marks, and bassist Ben Taylor (Beat Down Sound/September Sessions soundtrack) joined forces with the Lowdown Horns to lay a ferocious foundation for the soulful shouts of Mr. JCBrooks. The son of a Jersey funk diva set adrift by the disco era, heʼs renowned for his take-no-prisoners stage style, giving you no other option than to get up and move! JCBUS has always maintained the work ethic of never just 'giving a concert' but putting on a full-on extravaganza packed with theatricality, tons of heart, and buckets of sweat. Brooks performs with authentic swagger, and Bungeroth can unleash Townsend-ian execution. The Uptown Sound has shared stages and supported an eclectic array of artists, from legends like Robert Plant and Buddy Guy, to indie faves Peter Bjorn & John and the Dismemberment Plan, and soul stirrers Fitz & the Tantrums, Lee Fields, and Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens-proving that no matter who they share the bill with, JCBUS can make any stage feel like home.

the Soil & the Sun - https://thesoilandthesun.com/
the Soil & the Sun is corn-fed, Michigan-made New Mexican Space Music, or Experiential Spiritual Folk. Originating in 2008 as two-piece, the band has grown and matured into an eight-piece symbiotic community of friends and musicians. Oboe, violin, cello, guitars, accordion, percussion, piano, and voices, cooperate to create complex harmonies and layered melodies over driving rhythms. The careful orchestration and intentional instrumentation is yours for the taking.

Ed Vallance - https://www.edvallance.com/
Ed Vallance is a London-born musician living in Brooklyn. His intoxicating sophomore albumVolcano is a maelstrom of lush harmonies, brittle drums and ravishing guitar pyrotechnics. Set for release in January 2012, the album was recorded with the guidance of veteran producer Mark Ephraim (New Pornographers, Joan As Policewoman, Dirty On Purpose) A swift left turn from the lush acoustic indie-folk of 2008's debutThe Modern Life, Volcano sits incongruously but confidently in mainstream pop. The first single is the eerie and hypnotic "Crystalline" with an accompanying video from LA-based director Andreas Trollf (Devo, Papercuts) due for release in December 2011.
