Jason Carter, Event Director for Radio 1's Hackney Weekend says: "Our goal was to deliver the most ambitious and exciting event in Radio 1's history and with the artists already announced I think we've achieved that, but to now add the world's biggest hip hop icon, Jay-Z to the line-up, is fantastic news!"

Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney says: "The Hackney Weekend is shaping up to be the outdoor music event of the year and with Jay-Z now confirmed, demand for tickets will be even greater. There's still time to register to be part of the borough's biggest ever event. "

BBC Three has been confirmed as Radio 1's television partner and will be the only channel where viewers can see the whole event. BBC Three will also produce an exciting range of additional programming in the run up to the weekend, details of which will be announced in the coming months. A truly multiplatform experience, the event will be broadcast on Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra with a major interactive presence online and many live performances able to watch on demand.

There are some huge names to be added to the line-up in the coming weeks - keep listening to Radio 1 and 1Xtra for details.

This special event is being produced in partnership with Hackney Council.
Radio 1 will also be embarking on a month of outreach activity in East London ahead of the main event, including the Radio 1 & 1Xtra Academy that opens on June 1st, keep listening to Radio 1 and 1Xtra to find out how to get tickets to the Academy.

* Tickets for the event are free but there will a small booking fee. To read about this fee please visit:https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/hackneyweekend/2012/tickets/faqs/

The event goes to a different area in the UK each year and Radio 1 will again give priority to applicants in the region. Tickets will be allocated randomly, but weighted in favour of those living in Hackney and the other five Olympic boroughs with a smaller amount distributed throughout the rest of the UK.

Radio 1 has secured four first class ambassadors to champion the event and be involved in the programme of outreach activity in the build up to BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend 2012. The ambassadors are one of the UK's most successful musical exports: Leona Lewis, who grew up in Hackney, Radio 1/1Xtra DJ Trevor Nelson MBE and World and European Triple Jump Champion Phillips Idowu, who were both born in Hackney, together with East London's award winning artist and actor Plan B.

As host nation broadcaster for London 2012 the BBC is broadcasting a wide range of Olympic programming in 2012 including the London 2012 Festival, the Olympic Torch Relay and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The BBC will have extensive coverage of the Games from 27 July to 12 August on television, radio, online and mobile, including live action of every sport from every venue where it's happening throughout every day on bbc.co.uk/sport
