John Hampson Of Nine Days Offers Up A Pop Commentary On The Recession With 'My Fat Wallet'
St James, NY (Top40 Charts/ John Hampson) Long Island, NY's own John Hampson, best known as the writer and singer of the hit song 'Absolutely (Story of a Girl)' with his band ninedays back in 2000, has just penned and released a poignant new song entitled 'My Fat Wallet' on iTunes. The song, an electric guitar and Wurlizer piano driven pop rallying cry for the 99%, speaks to those affected by this seemingly never ending recession and delivers a message of hope amidst the despair.

"I find it ironic that we carry around these big, fat wallets, but usually without any cash in them. They are full of maxed out credit cards, useless ATM cards, but also keepsakes like pictures, concert tickets, etc. That whole idea kind of mirrors a darker current that is threading through our lives - the need to cast off the useless 'stuff' but hold onto the important things,' John said, 'The song is tongue in cheek, and meant to maybe be a bit subversive about the whole idea of the American Dream; it's not really working right now, is it?"

Wanting to help in some way, John will be donating 50% of net proceeds to Create Jobs for USA, a fund created to help stimulate job creation and retention in America managed by Opportunity Finance Network.

"After I played the song for some of my friends, the idea was hatched to actually DO something, be proactive and make this more than just an obnoxious little song," says John.

The Create Jobs for USA program provides capital grants to select Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). The CDFIs will provide loans to underserved community businesses, which include small businesses, microenterprises, nonprofit organizations, commercial real estate, and affordable housing. The goal of Create Jobs for USA is to bring people and communities together to create and sustain jobs throughout America.

"As always in my songs, there is an element of hope, a sort of flipping off of the crumbling establishment" John continued, "The failure of at least part of The American Dream can be replaced by a new American Dream, but we have to acknowledge that it is failing in order to move past it and create something better. Helping people find jobs is a good start."

'My Fat Wallet' is the first single off his upcoming EP, No Fairy Tales, which is set to be released in late September and also includes the songs, 'Fly A Black Flag', 'And Then We'll Shine', and 'I Do', a country/funky love song that wouldn't have sounded out of place on a record by The Band, which can be previewed here as part of a Four-Part Webisode Series, RealityCheck: https://youtu.be/L4k0vzoK9zo
